Not to dash your hopes or anything, but Skyrim, in it's current state, is bottlenecked at the CPU, not the graphics card.

It is very unlikely you will see any significant improvement from driver updates until Bethesda optimizes the game first.

According to AMD Catalyst 11.11C "Performance Driver" (8.911.1 November 30) - Guru3D.com Forums, it's saying that the supported cards include the ATI mobility 5000 series including the 5800 series. So.....hopefully it works!

While Skyrim is heavily CPU dependent, graphics drivers are usually good for squeezing out a few more FPS as they are optimized for every game. While I don't expect a HUGE difference, I hope they help a little.

for people running 6990's, the difference won't be that huge because you can max the game on a single card, but for people running 5870's, having xfire will lead to much more playable frame rates

Uhm i run skyrim on i7 940 xm and I never saw usage up to 25% even in whiterun with texture mod and even if my cf is not so bad and I run the game 40-60 fps I hope in some improvement from this drivers because I want to use enchanting shaders mod but it hit my fps badly .....after 20-45

Just tested it. 11.11c gives BSOD on my m17x 5870 crossfire setup as well. :( Works fine when you dsiable the secondary card and use a single GPU. AMD must've messed something up when they inroduced 11.11. Either dell needs to release a fix or wait and hope that the next major driver release from amd (11.12 or 12.1) will fix it. Until then, no smooth crossfire for Skyrim on M17xR2 and M18x.

The fact that you're getting 25% usage means that you're maxing out one of your four cores. The game is supposed to be multi-core compatible, but the implementation is questionable as many people are having issues with the game only running on one core.

:( You have to love AMD. I am so sick of paying a premium for crossfire only to have it backfire. The next 3k rig I buy will be Nvidia not that guarantees anything but I am just boycotting AMD period!! What ever they are paying there engineers its to much!!

It's not AMD's fault that you get BSOD's. It's Dells. The Entire 11.11 driver series BSOD's are because of Dell.

I just downloaded it and tried to install. I don't get a BSOD but my laptop is stuck in an endless reboot. I start the install and the screen blinks a few times then reboot. Have to load last good config. I'm trying a clean install now and will update to see if that works.

Okay, quick update. After doing CCleaner and Driver sweeper. It installed completely BUT... after doing a reboot it would get to the windows screen and reboot. It did this 9 times. On the 10th continuous attempt at booting into windows it completely loaded. I can confirm that it does run and work but you HAVE to make it through all the reboots. I'm running the system in my sig. I'll try and run Skyrim and see if it really provides true crossfire support.

*Update: Skyrim will run but with what appears to be a duel video image. One image frozen over another. It is VERY smooth at Ultra settings, but it appears as though one card simply isn't working. COD MW3 runs fine max settings with cf on, BF3 runs on auto detect settings, but no noticeable increase in performance with cf on, it still lags or is choppy. I do want to also note that when I try to disable cf to try and play Skyrim my computer crashes and reboots. When it gets back into windows cf is still enabled. I'm going to try and find a way to disable v-sync and see if that stops the dual image problem. Just an update.

*Update 2: No luck on disabling v-sync, still have issues regardless of the graphics lvl settings. But if you set it to windowed mode it runs just fine on all lvls. But if I'm not mistaken windows and programs (games) ran in windowed mode only run on the primary video card, correct me if I'm wrong. That's the update. I wish it worked. But it doesn't. I haven't seen any other problems. but I don't benchmark either so I can't say anything about performance gains.

Len, to disable v-sync in skyrim: add iPresentInterval=0 to the bottom of the [Display] section of the Skyrim.ini file in the \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory.

This is the only way i was able to do it. There are a few other methods on the net that dont work

    Brave man Len ;)

When I crash that much I worry about trashing my boot record, I've done that before. At this point, I will put the *fail* stamp on 11.11c and be happy I got 11.10 working again and can play skyrim gimped.

Well heres another update. I tried disabling v-sync only to have the screen be completely useless. Turn it back on, turn shadows all the way down and it's a LITTLE better but there is still a bad overlay. With that said, despite the fact that there is that overlay it does appear to be using the second card because the game plays smooth as butter. It seems like they are close, really close but just not quite there. I'll be rolling back to 11.10.

@dma: I figure, what have I got to lose. At worse I reload the computer again. No big deal, at least not while I'm still here in the states lol. In a week it'll be a big problem though.

And the alt+tab marathon continues!! I love pressing it every time I enter a new environment or menu screen, I figure if I press it every 2 minutes and I play for 4-6 hours straight I must be pressing it a good 200 times a day!

After trying to install 11.11c everything went fubar.
I reverted to the old configuration that worked fine with CF. I installed 11.9 with CAP4.
Here are 2 pictures of the configuration

With this I get CF working and the game stays 30+ FPS outdoors. Indoors is 45+

On my 5870's, I ran the game on High with all stock settings except for aa 2x af 4x and I got a clean 60 FPS constantly. I'm using that file that some dude created on the skyrim fps thread to force crossfire, as well as 11.10 with 10.9 CAP4 profiles.

On my 6990's I run the game on Ultra with AA @ 8x and AF@ 12x and its 100% smooth 60+ FPS. I took over Whiterun last night in a huge epic battle and I never dipped below 55.

I believe I am on 10.9 CAP 4 already, and what is the cause of an "error" with the above file because thats what happened the last time I dropped that in my skyrim folder, or does it go in data or somewhere else?

    Thanks.

Where might one find the 10.9 CAP 4? Can one play BF3 without any kind of CrossfireX issues with these? Where do you guys find all the old CAPs and CCC versions?

Edit: Found them on Rage 3D.com. Question - Do you need to have all the CAPs as they all improve different things, or does the latest version just cover all the aforementioned ones?

    Deposit Files

i installed it on my desktop, i7 2600k 5970 with cap2 and bf3 runs smooth, not sure if this will work mobility, seems that 5xxx serie are in for mobility, dont know for 6xxx.

Btw on my desktop with those drivers skyrim get negative cfx scaling.
