I've looked a few threads that I could find on this problem but, I'm still having problems. I've actually had this problem since I've installed my 6970m. But, since it was only one card I didn't see that it mattered too much. I just installed two 6990m's in cross fire and need CCC to enable crossfire.
I've tried uninstalling all the drivers ((Rebooting)) and reinstalling ((Rebooting again)). The drivers themselves are installing fine. Just when I right click on the home screen to open CCC or click on the short cut I get the hourglass circle for a few seconds and then nothing.
I've also unistalled the logitech drivers for my surround sound speakers but, that didn't seem to help either. I have a Razr Mamba, Belkin n52te gamepad, and Seagate external hard drive. Would any of these cause any problems?

This actually happened to me once. I used driver sweeper after I uninstalled to completely wipe all the driver files, then reinstalled. Might want to try that.
-
Just got done trying that. Didn't seem to help.
-
First, uninstall the drivers via the control panel. Make sure the catalyst install manager is uninstalled as well.
Then reboot into safe mode. From here, run driver sweeper and remove all remaining files.
Reboot after this and run CCleaner. Then install the original Dell drivers that came with your computer. Reboot.
After this, install whatever AMD drivers you would like. -
Not wanting to hi-jack but I have exactly the same issue as terreos but just cant resolve it. Ive been using the beta drivers/ccc fine up until a few weeks ago when i tried to install the 12.4 whql package.
For some reason the video driver wouldnt install and it all went a bit funny with bsod. On restart I uninstalled everything then sweeped but now just cant get anything other than the standard dell driver/ccc to work anymore.
I managed to get the video driver updated using a 12.3 beta package but still the ccc just wont work from anything other than dell.
This is really starting to frustrate me as I dont know whats gone wrong or how i can fix it. Ive been searching and im thinking its a .net issue but really need some help as i dont want to reinstall my whole system just to use the latest catalyst package.
Thanks, Matt
p.s. its on a m17 r3 with 6990m -

Maybe try update/install the latest .NET framework.
-
That's a different idea. Just got done installing the latest .NET framework. Still nothing.

Try this: Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, use Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and check to see whether there is more than one entry for CCC. If so, the installation data/register has been corrupted and is most likely preventing the removal or installation and operation of updated (or any) CCC versions. If there is more than one entry, delete all instances of CCC, sweep clean and reinstall. Worked for me when I encountered the same issue re CCC when using the 6990M. -

Yes, and nothing else. Unless you see multiple entries for other AMD programs like Install Manager, but all I had to deal with was multiple (3-4 IIRC) versions of CCC. However, first let the MS Fixit try to fix it automatically before resorting to the Cleanup Utility.
-
Alright I did try using Fix it on Catalyst Control Center. It's only suggestion was to uninstall. Gave it a try and reloaded CCC. Didn't work. I just used Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and looked through the files for AMD or CCC duplicate files. There definitely aren't any. I read through the entire list to be sure there wasn't any duplicates of any of the files in there. Some where close but not duplicates.

Sorry it didn't work. Good luck finding the solution; AMD drivers can be damnably frustrating.
-
That's okay. At least it was a different idea to give me a glimmer of hope. Chances are I'll probably have to reinstall windows from scratch. I really don't want to go down that path today as that will take quite a while.

Thanks to an AMD forum, I found a few extra steps to implement.
***Check to see that you are operating in SG mode in the BIOS. (Switchable graphics).***
1. Download the latest version of CCC: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software ? Download the latest drivers for your graphics products
2. Remove your AMD drivers through the control panel using the Catalyst Install Manager. Uninstall the Catalyst Install Manager as well.
3. Reboot into safe mode and run driver sweeper.
4. Reboot into safe mode again and run CCleaner's registry cleaner. Then delete all ATI/ATI Technologies folders in C:\Prog Files and C:\Programs Files (x86)
5. Go to C:\Windows\Assembly and sort by "Public Key Token". Locate the following Public Key Token "90ba9c70f846762e" and delete it.
6. Check that C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE is empty.
7. Using Regedit, assure that these registry locations are empty:
HKCU/Software/ATI/ACE
HKLM/Software/ATI/ACE
8. Shut down and re-start normally.
9. Reinstall the Dell drivers and reboot. Try to open CCC. If it works, install the newer AMD drivers over it.
If none of these steps work, check the event viewer when you try to open CCC if you can see any errors. If there is no info anywhere then I would say a format may be needed unfortunately because I cannot think of any more of a detailed method for ensuring that everything is uninstalled then reinstalled properly. -
Thank-you to everyone else for your input aswell! Hopefully this will help anyone else going through what I just went through. -
Wooooo! I am glad I could help you out, you are very welcome!

Awesome man! Now enjoy those cards!!! Get your game on!

Hmm almost. Still can't enable crossfire. Says the cable isn't connected. Just openned her up two times and reseated the the gpu's and crossfire cable twice. Looks like I might have damaged the cable. Anyone know the best place to get a replacement?
-
Hmm, well now we have a hardware issue. If both GPUs work by themselves (put 1 in at a time and boot up) then it def has to be the cable. I think you could just contact Dell and ask for a replacement cable. It may even be free...
-
Well this is a fun adventure. I'll give them a call. See if they help me out or tell me my laptop is too out of date. Lol. Upgrade monkey seems to have cables too but $45 is steep. Oh well. Not that big a deal compare to the cards.
