    Change CPU on Alienware M17x R1

    I wanna change my CPU on my Alienware, It has a Core 2Quad Q9000 now. Ennyone know witch socket it is or know a good uppgrade for it?

    Socket is PGA478. You have a pretty darn good cpu right now, here are you're only upgrade options:
    Q9100 2.26GHz
    or a QX9300 2.53 GHz processor that will allow you to overclock.

    There are also 2 core options out there, but I wouldn't go that route if you do things like encoding. Even games now a days are taking advantage of more than 2 cores.

    it's also called socket P. There are some engineering sample CPU's out there that are referred to as Q9200's. Theres a seller on Ebay named Laptopmonkey that usually has them. Myself and several others on this board have bought these from him. They are essentially the same thing as the qx9300, unlocked multipliers and everything, and go for a couple hundred less. I've had one for a few months now, overclocked by a considerable amount , and have no issues with it at all, nor has anyone else that i've seen. They are an excellent deal for only 270 dollars or so.
