Since the GTX480 is being replaced by the GTX485, will AW still push the 480 out or make the jump to the only mobile card more powerful than the 6970m?

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

The GTX485 has a claimed performance of DUAL GTX 460's. I've scoured the web and cant find anything about Dell/AW making the change, but see that many other oems are making the change.

Dude, first the gtx 485M has replaced the 480M a long time ago now, even the 470M came before the 485M and was more performant than the 480M and replaced it.
Second, AMD's radeon "6790" is the second fastest card after the 485M, not the 6890.
And third, IF Alienware want to go with a high end nvidia card it should be the 485M, but we've been speculating about this so much that it doesn't make any sense to reopen this discussion, only time will tell.

I'd wait before claiming the 6970M to be second, especially when testing a ES card with no proper BIOS, firmware or even driver support. ;)

Well we wouldn't mind if it proves to be as strong or stronger than the 485M for half the price would we now ;)

That's true. The 6970M remains the most powerful card announced for M17XR3 so far.

Edit: Beat me to it. I'd like to see a more powerful Nvidia card in the R3 as much as anyone else but the fact remains the 6970 is the fastest period, and the 460m is the fastest/only Nvidia card to see the R3 thus far.

Ok i'm closing this one down for a bit. If everyone would kindly take a deep breath and remember that
a)the internet is a good tool for research on subjects
    and
b)that not everyone has all available data on every subject matter
(a large reason why our forums exist;) )

If you would like to continue the conversation please feel free to let me know and i can reopen, but be nice this time :)
