Hi guys, so i've recently got my M17x r3
and so far, im in love with it.
But somehow i got a question about my GPU.
coz i ordered a 6990M version of it. im new to Window 7 and display card stuff
so when i check with my window index status i got this

The img above show my GPU as 6900 Series
I am not sure if either which 6900 card it is using currently
    so this is the question.
Is it currently running as 6990M but it only shows as 6900 Series?
Hmm Will i be able to check Which 6900m Series card im using now?

Becoz if i hv data backed up, i can call Dell 24/7 and ask their Tech Guy to come to my home and switch it for me, Since i hv the order list right here.

    Thank you Guys~

HWInfo tells me that I have a 5870 specifically. Everything else I use says '5800' series as well. Give that a try.

It is a temperature monitoring program. Free download, just search for it on the web.

Use GPU-Z. If your GPU clocks are 715/900 with 1120 unified shaders than you have a 6990M. If the clocks are 680/900, with 960 unified shaders, than you have a 6970M.

Download GPUz and see what it says under 'shaders'.

A lot of people have reported their 6990m's showing as 6970m's. It's normal. As long as your GPU-z reading are 1120 shaders and 715/900 clocks.

Make sure you install the ordinary version, not the ROG version. The ROG version, which is the one you have reads the shaders wrong. Looks like you do have a 6990m from the clock speeds :)

It is when i use HWinfo, and it said....
Video Chipset as ATI RADEON HD 6970M/6990M (BLACKCOMB XT/XTX/PRO)
Video Card as AMD Radeon HD 6970M [Dell]
Should i contact the stuff direct and ask what's going on@@?

In your HwInfo Picture it showed 1120 Unified Shaders, in your GPUz it shows lower because you are using the RoG version of GPUz which does not read shader numbers correctly.

    You have the 6990M.

That's a 6990M. All versions of GPU-Z 0.5.5 return the reduced number of unified shaders for the 6970M and 6990M. This is what my 6990M looks like in the current version of GPU-Z. Exactly like yours. Chill out. :D

like others have said...you have a 6990m based on the 1120 shader count

the weird thing is that mine shows correctly in .5.5...that is, 1120 shaders and 715/900. I'll post a pic up later tonight

Has there been a confirmed case of the dummies at dell actually putting the wrong card in a laptop someone ordered?

This seems unlikely to me for some reason...seems like they wouldnt screw that up. I am not sure why, as they can sure screw up alot of things...
