Hello everyone. I'm having a bit of an issue with Windows Movie Maker. Maybe you guys can help me.

I'm capturing 1920x1080 HD footage in raw .avi files. When I load them in Movie Maker, they start okay, but quickly get choppy and very annoying to watch. When I save the video, there is no choppiness or anything and it looks great. The choppiness only happens when I'm previewing the edits I've made in Movie Maker. Weird, right?

Anyway, I'm using an i7 3630qm 2.3 ghz processor, 8 gb ram, 7970m, etc. What could the issue be here?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd like to be able to edit videos normally, if possible. Thanks in advance!

The issue also happens when I preview the .avis in Windows Media Player. They are very choppy and unwatchable.

Anyone have any ideas? Is 8 GB of RAM not enough to do this?

its because it's just a rough copy of the file as you haven't fully encoded it. That's why it looks great after you export it. I've experienced the same things, and its not a huge deal personally.

It's not a huge deal, no, but it is pretty annoying when I'm trying to preview the video to check sound levels, etc., in Movie Maker. It becomes a hassle because the thing is so choppy. Nearly every second of footage is choppy. But thanks for the help. At least now I know I'm not the only one that this happens to.

A little workaround - Save your video first and use that as the preview. Don't close Movie Maker. If you need to make any changes, make them and save again. Seems to work okay for me. Just a minor inconvenience I suppose.

True, once you finish the video and encode it, will look better :)

Well, this issue seems to only happen when I record raw footage with MSI Afterburner. When I use Fraps it's fine. Just thought I'd share that if anyone else encounters this. Get Fraps and you'll be good to go!

Fraps is raw footage that's why it works better. Its not compressed like most other formats. That's why Fraps recording takes up so much room. ;)
