Just got my copy of Alan Wake (Collector's E.).
At 1920x1200 and medium settings I get around 15-25 fps at the starting area, and it frequently dips to 10 fps or less as I walk around the place.
Had to lower the resolution to 1280x800 and minimize all the settings to get a playable fps. (~60fps with vsync on) It still drops to 45-48fps when I look into the distance though (not all the time, but enough to be a nuisance).
Am using 12.2 drivers from AMD.
Anyone having similiar issues?

something wrong.... I managed to get 32-36 FPS on Full HD resolution with full setting (including Vsync and full AA).
i'm using 6990m though, but should be not that different.....
do you already try the newest caps for Ati ?? -
Hi ShimmerArc, I have similar laptop you have, and I am getting the same frame rate you are getting. So I guess it's "normal". The problem is, this games currently doesn't support Crossfire/SLI .. so we are running this game with only one GPU. And a single GTX 280M or single HD 5870 doesn't seems to be enough for this game.
I am waiting for remedy to release tha patch 3, which will include the SLI/CrossfireX support, so we can play at better frame rate.
Other than that, there is an issue with x360ce, so if you are using x360ce make sure you have your joystick plugged in while playing the game.
B4n6k3, a single 6990m is somewhere around a 40% better than a HD 5870... so your numbers seems right, also maybe you're playing the game at 1080p. I noticed a nice 5-10fps boost if I use 1080p instead of 1200p. -
still just thinking a couple time back the 5870 is the strongest GPU..... just imagine how fast technology evolved....
there's an issue with controller ?? I often use gamepad for this kind of game and so far it's fine.....
I use Onza, not the 360 gamepad, but still fine.... -
The big issue with Alan Wake and controller, is if the controller you are using is not the Xbox 360 one, the controller will not work at all. So you have to use a little app. called x360ce to emulate the Xbox 360 controller. The bad thing is if you run the game and your controller is not plugged in on the usb port, then the game will run at 12 fps. -
@tyranus7: Ah I guess that's the issue then. Figured it has something to do with Crossfirex not working properly. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks while I go back to wiping Republic scums on the floor in ToR.

Hey guys check this CAP out:
AMD Catalyst Application Profile - 12.1 CAP3 download from Guru3D.com
I run the game at 35-40 fps on my M17x R2 now with maxed settings at 1920x1200 except only 2x AA, after installing the CAP -
Thanks! That worked like a charm. Running at 1920x1200 with settings on low, but maxed out draw and lod distance. Stays at 55-60 fps now. (Vsync on)
Now time to scare myself witless. >.> -
And here I am waiting for my SLI profile =( .....
