I've just purchased my R4 about 2 weeks ago and I'm extremely happy with it performance and looks wise however I've noticed a slightly annoying issue. Every now and again id hear a slight clicking noise. I initially suspected the hard disk but i removed this to install an SSD before putting it back in as a secondary drive. I noticed the clicking was still occurring with the SSD only so that ruled out the hard drive. Anyway I've realized the clicking is coming from one of the fans when it spins up. It sounds perfect when the fans are moving. A completely smooth sound and operation(very happy with the temps even before a repaste) The clicking noise however is a bit strange. Is this a normal occurence or is it a problem with the fan?

try to disassemble the laptop again and see if there are loose wire getting in the way of the fans. could be happening when you repaste.
    worth a shot imo.

Had a look and cant see anything getting in the way. It doesn't seem to be having any ill effect so i think ill just leave it for now

If its new, call dell and tell the about it. If you've only had it two weeks you can still return it for a new one. Also may be able to get them to send you a new fan.

its not about "ill effect" or no, its about paying USD2,000+ for the laptop and you should expect nothing but perfect build quality.
anyway small problems like this might entails to bigger problems later if not properly addressed. though i sincerely hope it doesn't in your case.

this is something we all could learn from btw, just don't do any repasting or any kind of tweakings or hardware change until you use the computer for at least a week. therefore if problems like this occurs, we would know if the laptop itself is a lemon or we did something wrong in the process of upgrading the laptop.
    makes warranty claims easier too.
