    Hi all,

I just bought a 55" VIZIO M552i-B2 and hooked it up to my laptop, as I'm using it as a external monitor for my living room.

I get 1080p fine from the laptop when the lid is open...when I close the lid, though, the resolution drops to 720p.

Now the TV IS displaying in 1080p (it says so @ the top in the menu), I checked my display resolution in Windows and it says its 1080p too but I can clearly see the desktop in 720p (larger icons, text, etc).

I went to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/: It reports my resolution as 1280x720 as well.

I'm pretty sure its an issue with the TV because I had my laptop connected to my old 47" LG today and it works just fine...but at the same time, if its working fine with the lid open, then why is the signal different when its closed?

    Any ideas??

What video drivers are you running?

    I have a 780M card running 335.23.

I know 337.88 is out, but installing that driver completely borked my system and I spent 2 hours reverting it to the old drivers...so I'm very hesitant about trying that again, heh. Still, they are later than the Alienware/Dell recommended ones so I think I'm okay on the driver end.

Right click on the desktop and go to screen resolution, and "disconnect" your internal display. Your internal display will automatically revert back to the internal panel when you disconnect the video cable.

This should do the trick. There may be some sort of incompatibility between the TV and the PC.

Unfortunately, that does the exact same thing as closing the lid. When disabling the laptop screen, the desktop refreshes to 720p.
