Hello everyone! This is going to be my first post.

I really wanted to buy xps with RGB LED but Dell is not offering this display anymore. I was wondering how is 17" RGB LED 1920 x 1200 which comes with M17x R2.

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Thanks! :)

Well, I did not care for the SXPS RGBLED one bit.

Good color reproduction but black levels were some of the worst I have seen with plenty of bleed around the edges as well.

I must be honest and say I haven't seen the R2's RGBLED, but from what I hear it is excellent and does not have any of the problems I mentioned above.

The R2 is OKAY IMO but it is a Samsung and compared to the LG, well the LG blows it away. So my next R2 I will be replacing the junk samsung RGB with the LG RGB.

I wasn't aware that there were 2 different OEM's for the RGBLED.

Last I heard there was only 1 - Samsung.

    Thanks for your comments.

Which RGB LED is Dell offering with R2, Samsung or LG?

That is true, however they used to ship with samsung or LG but because of some kind of issue with the LG they went exclusively with the samsung. My m6400 covet has the LG and while it isn't perfect it is so much better than the samsung. The samsung had uneven brightness, the LG had even brightness and was brighter.

More than likely the Samsung, they probably don't use the LG anymore which is a shame. I will definitely replace my R2 samsung screen with the LG. The uneven lighting kept bothering me to the point where I kept messing with brightness settings and tilting the lcd back and forth. The LG I never felt it needed any adjusting and could stare at it for hours without problems.

You had a defective screen. Mine was perfect with uniform brightness. Just ask s0ysauce, he owns my R2 now and can attest to it. Plus with the proper profile, it's hard to believe the LG could look better.

I hope its as good as people say. I have the R1 screen and imo it's great. So hopefully, the RGB LED looks better than what I have.

Huh... I really like the screen on our Studio XPS 16. The R2 is better but doesn't blow it out of the water.

I had both of them to compare with and I liked the LG MUCH better but we'll see with my second R2.

    I was referring to the R2/M6400 Covet and 17" Samsung/LG not XPS16.

Did that seller on eBay ever write you back about whether or not the screen was made by LG?

No but it doesn't matter because I found out the model is LP171WU5 which is around $100 through any lcd seller.

Are you sure that's the one? I haven't seen it described as RGB LED by any reseller, just as a normal WLED.

Yes I am sure. They probably don't know what it is (lcd resellers). I haven't heard of any 17" 1920x1200 WLED by LG, just the RGB LED. On the LG site it lists the LP171WU5 as RGB LED too.

Oh and another thing. Running HWiNFO on my M6400 Covet it lists the display as RM244€171WU5 = LP171WU5 = LG RGB LED. Unless of course the revisions like LP171WU5-A1 or A2 etc refer to RGB or WLED but I don't think it does.

Nice, I await your results then. If it works and is that cheap from a reseller, I may opt for one as well if you can put both side by side and do comparisons once you get yours. +rep.

He bought it elsewhere and put it in himself, he does that alot if you look at the posts he has. He's one of the best guys on here that tests the upper level parts in his AW's and gives info on them. They still haven't released the i7-x40 series processors in anything other than the m15x. You can buy them a few places as just the processor right now.

He didn't pay $1000, I think after all is said and done he's around $500 on his. I agree that the $1200 that Dellienware is asking for it to come from the factory is rediculous. The way I've always thought of it was if I were to buy a new machine and want the top chip (920xm/940xm) I'd order the machine with the base processor, sell it on eBay, and buy the processor myself on eBay. I checked and it can be done for $3-500 after all that!
