    Hi,

I am having a problem with my R1. It seems to randomly freeze from time to time. It happens at least once a day. It also independent of what I am doing. Sometimes during game play, or during web browsing, or burning data etc. I have A05 bios now and it was also happening on A03. The video drivers I'm running are the P06 drivers from dells website. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm going to take a wild guess and say you have Nvidia Cards? Better yet... you have the 260GTX in SLI right?

I have the same problem on my Alienware M17x r1. I have one 260M card and the pc constantly freezes on random events just like the op.

Also, now, the screen goes black during some of the freezes and I have to hard reboot. Sometimes I get a BSOD with the nvddm-something error with a blue screen. Alienware's been out once to replace my vid card. Now I have no idea what it is. =/

Had that on my old R1. It happened after I installed the latest nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. I would do a clean re-install of your gpu.

Im positive its a gpu issue. If you uninstall your graphics card and do a cc cleaner/driver sweeper then just don't install any graphics drivers to test it out, you'll notice the freezing stops. >.<

A few weeks ago I was having problems switching from hybrid to full power mode so I tried a couple of different things, including enabling Active State Power Management in the Bios. Last week I had a couple of random freezes, all which required a hard re-boot. I disabled ASPM in the Bios and haven't experienced a freeze since. Don't know if ASPM was the cause or if I've just been lucky thus far.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them and let you know what happens. Yes I do have the 260 SLI.
