While waiting for my m17x to arrive (later today!), I've been reading up on all the tweaking that I'll need to do to it. The m17x Wiki has been very helpful, especially the information about configuring the SSD for performance. But, I've also been reading about the whole 4k issue and that TRIM appears to not be available for use in a RAID 0 setup like mine (Dell's stock 128 GB SSDs in RAID 0). So, I wouldn't be enabling TRIM, but I should still do all the other things listed on the Wiki, right? (Steps such as disabling system restore, prefetch, superfetch, disk defragmentation, and the pagefile*)
Another concern: Because of this no-TRIM-in-RAID0 business, I know that I'm looking at having to flash the drives and reinstall every few months to keep performance up. Not looking forward to this. Would it be recommended to take the drives out of RAID right away so that I can utilize TRIM, or would it not be worth the effort? Is there any chance that an update will come along that will allow TRIM in RAID 0 or is this just how it's going to be if I keep Dell's stock drives?
*- I don't plan to mess with the pagefile until my 8GB 1333mHz RAM upgrade arrives sometime next week.

Turns out the decision was made for me... I received my m17x yesterday and while I was checking it out I realized that the drives were not set up as a raid. And not only that, but TRIM was already enabled and at least half of the SSD optimization steps were completed. Unexpected benefit of buying a refurb, I guess -- the previous owner must have done all of this before sending it back to Dell!
Maybe if TRIM becomes a workable option for RAID 0 in the future, I'll think about reconfiguring the drives, but for now this will suit me just fine. I just have to resist the temptation to pull the second drive out and use it as the OS drive for my desktop, lol...
