Connected to the internet even though the icon says I'm not?

Anyone have any idea how to fix that? My icon in the bottom right shows no connection (wired network) no matter what, if I turn wireless on it shows that there are connections available but I don't have access to those providers.

do you have a network bridge Active? I used to get that when I bridged my old laptop to my xbox 360 so I could play online a few years back.

No bridge and no virtual machine..............well unless someone else has managed to hack in and do so themselves anyway.

I'm thinking it's just your internet. I remember how "subpar" it is (you described it a different way). Wouldn't surprise me it doesn't send a confirmation back that your connected.

I thought about that as well but others on the same network get connectivity icons. In addition I canceled the plan I had been using and switched to the other provider out here, marginally better service but no change in the icon.

Next suggestion is because of the network location wizard. That box that comes up when you connect to a new network that asks if it's a home, work, or public network. I've had issues with that damn subroutine where it doesn't come up and then you get the limited connectivity icon or not connection icon. You can try and manually setting it by going into the network and sharing center and underneath the network name, if it shows public network or something like that, click on it and try changing the network location type.

Thanks, I'll give that a try this evening when I get back to my room.

Also trying a clean boot could work. It could be an app that is making that appear like that. Do you have Wireless HD or so?

No, no wireless HD, and I've connected it to other hard line connections and it does the same thing. Everything is working as it should, it just won't show me as connected.

That's pretty weird. Perhaps a Respawn or Clean install might do the trick. But before doing that maybe you should try the clean boot.
