You can use HWINFO64 to set both fans to full speed (or any speed, but both fans work together for the R3). HWiNFO64 Download. It can also regulate the fans using a temperature based progressive profile tied to various CPU or GPU sensors, but only one at a time. The author, Martin Mumak, maintains a support site at TechInferno which provides extensive guidance and discussion regarding setup and fan control in Alienware notebooks. It also provides information about your computer's configuration and operation. Martin is very approachable and will help when available. The utility is widely used by forum members and more assistance is available right here.

Repasting your 580M is quite easy. Here's a guide written for the R3 using an ATI/AMD card, but the process is identical. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/561599-m17x-r3-cpu-gpu-re-pasting-guide-w-pics.html.

you click on that little fan icon at the bottom of the sensors page (at the bottom, beside the logging start button) to enter the fan speed modification page. then you move the sliders, and you click apply :)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...e-fixing-m17x-r3-580m-thermal-throttling.html

I advice that if hwinfo cannot close properly/requres force reboot, go to settings and disable lpc ec support and set the 3 values for the van(enough for me).

Appllying thermal paste - it's easy if you're prepared. there's youtube video on applying the paste, and even here there's a guide on it- search it. Bad cases that happen to me is I over-applied the paste - the temp went too high than usual 50-55..next I didn't stick the large green square pad correctly - which made the laptop unable to recognize my 580. Just had to reallign that.

If HWiNFO also freezes up and you don't want to use the 3 set values (like me), just unplug and plug in the power cord in the back. It'll reset without the need of a reboot.
