So I had this idea that would combine the use of a high end laptop cooler, such as a Antec 200 coupled with a small freezing unit placed beneath the fan so that the system is getting constant cold air. Coupled with those two, the 5870m cooling mod that makes temperatures so low would be awesome. I can't think of what you would call the small freezing unit tho unless you could make one yourself.

What's the communities ideas on this? I just ordered the Antec 200 cooler and got this idea of placing ice or something beneath the cooler for added temperature reduction :)

should work fine as long as you can handle the condensation issues on your cooling coil side. Condensation blowing up into your laptop can be BAD!.

I have built many things like this for desktops includng pumping chilled glycol through a radiator assembly and running 120mm fans to move the air. or even a portable air conditioner modded to pump cold dry air down a metal flex pipe into a computer chasis from another room.

hmmm possibly build a 6" deep box with the fans and rad and then an air dryer assembly. dangit Harry now you got me thinking again !!!!

now the question is do we want to?????

for short periods of time get some good freezer packs, set them up on your desk, toss a low pile towel on them and then set your laptop ontop of that .... it helps some machines

    Awesome thanks :)

You also got me thinking :) I just got an idea of getting a small freezer and then making hole and then putting a tube in it that has a fan to blow cold freezer air down the tube that goes up to towards the laptop and through the cooling pad fan. :)

My main issue though is getting something small that can out put low temperatures. Like a some sort of Freezing Slate/block

look up peltier coolers, the gizmos that make the 12 volt cooler for campers and vehicles work... not overly fast but some potential

great idea, I would just be worried about possible condensation and moisture being thrown up through the fans into the laptop.

now where's my acrylic, that shouldnt be hard to build.

How could you prevent the condensation?

or not cretaing enough negative pressure below the fans to move micro water droplets

if you move alot of air in a hurry you create a vaccum which can draw dirt, moisture and micro droplets from below up into the fan and push them out ( into laptop base ), think the basic principles of a vaccum cleaner or shop vac. the trick is to find a point where you move the air but leave the undesireable stuff from coming along for the ride. or else to stop them before they make contact with the fans.

sorry I did better in physics and chemistry then my english classes ..... it kind of creeps up on me still.

ROFLMAO, insane isnt even a start. just wait till you chill your watercooled desktop by mounting the rad and reservoir in your wifes freezer... okay it gets worse when she wants hers cooled the same way casue shes sick of fan noise.
