Does anyone know of an easy way to copy the hidden system restore sector from the HD to an SSD and have it work normally ?

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
well you could try one of those HD cloning programs. Not sure how well they work though.
-
Thanks but will it only do the hidden files ?
-
I have used Samsung magic to clone a Samsung SSD it did the recovery too. And I have used Miray HDClone 4.3 its free and will clone SSD's I have done more than 10 and it will do the Alienrespawn also.
-
Thanks for the info did you have to take any special steps to get it to work. can you give me all the details of how you got it to work.
-
You can use acronis true image 2013, it's not very expensive, i bought it and it can do anything you need to do.
-
Thanks I will give it A try as soon as I get my Samsung 1Tb SSD

I wanna see some benchmarks once you get it installed!!
-
Will do I just hope the cloning works the way it should. what benchmarks would you like to see ??

If you are moving from an HDD to an SSD it's better to do a clean install.
-
What alienware-l_porras is trying to tell you, is that when you install windows 7 or windows 8 on a SSD, windows is automaticcally adjusting some settings for you, by disabling disk defrag by example.
If you install Windows on a HDD first, disk defrag won't be disabled, and if your clone and restore this on the new SSD, the disk defrag will run, and may damaged your SSD. -
Normally I would agree with you but I want the hidden restore system files that are on the drive so I can have the system factory restore on the SSD.
-
Yes I know this. do you know of any way to get the factory restore files added to the ssd and have them work with out cloning the whole drive.
-
If your using a Samsung SSD you can use Data Migration..and then Samsung Magician to optimize the SSD. If your using another brand SSD try Miray HDClone, works very well with standard HD's to SSD's it adjusts for the not having a platter to chips. I have used both software with no problems on many Alienware systems.
-
Yes is will be the Samsung SSD 840 evo 1TB. Once they get them back in stock, I got A email today saying they are back ordered and should be back instock around the 19th.
-
Problem solved thats what Iam running now SSD Samsunf 840 500g works great 7.9 on the windows scale.
-
Just for my understanding Samsung Magician did clone the hidden factory restore files. and if so have you tried using it ?
-
Yes it did and yes I did a back up to it.. your SSD will come with the Data migration that will clove the drives. Magician will optimize the OS for using a SSD.
-
Awesome and thanks for all your help. one more thing did your SSD come with the usb adapter if not were do I get one. because I do not think the one I am getting has one. ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3W16OU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
-
Did not come with one..so got this on Amazon worked great. Amazon.com: SANOXY® 2.5 inch SATA Hard Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Cable with Silicon Protective Case: Computers & Accessories
Even has a case for the SSD and the adapter.
-
I have the one from A crucial SSD to usb that I could never get it to clone for the desktop ( Amazon.com: Crucial m4 256GB 2.5-Inch (7mm) Solid State Drive with Data Transfer Kit CT256M4SSD1CCA: Electronics )

have not gotten the 1TB drive yet, this is from the 840 EVO 750 GB drive I got in first. the results should be very close when I do get my 1TB 840 EVO .as you can tell the cloning worked perfectly the only msg I am getting is that the drive is not set up in ACHI mode. I always thought that the raid mode that Alienware is set to default by was also ACHI. can anyone give me some insight on this ?
