Hi people, during one of my class today I noticed on hardware info 64 that my turbo boost seems to be defective or something like that.

What it does is all of my 4 cores randomly switch to 2.8ghz all the time even tho nothing is running. And there doesn't seem to be the 2.0ghz speed anymore.
The only frequency showing is 800mhz (8.00x),2.6ghz(26.00x) and 2.8ghz (28.00x). All of them switching rapidly for no apparent reason. I tried restarting with no luck. Does anyone know if it's normal or not?

btw my power plan is on high performance.
If anyone has a good desktop recording software I could record it so you can see.

    Thanks

I disabled Intel speedstep in the bios and the speed now only goes to 2.0ghz but will still drop to 800mhz for no reason. If Intel speedstep is disabled shouldn't it not be able to throttle/down clock the speed?

What app are you using to monitor the cpu core speed? , guess HWinfo

When stressed , all 4 of my cores seem to run at 2.6ghz together

You should never disable Speedstep. Also the speed jumping around is completely normal. It is intelligently switching what cores and what speed to use. You are freaking out over nothing.

well not even a month ago I check with hwinfo and all four were running at 2.0ghz without jumping everywhere so I figured it wasn't normal...

Nah. I have ThrottleStop which is well know to be the greatest app for CPU's and it is up and down non-stop. And clocking down to 800Mhz is normal too. That is the CPU's idle state.
