    Hi Guys,

My Windows Server 2008 r2 installation isn’t going to well. I cant update the video card bios, the video cards beyond the original driver, and the Ethernet port is not recognized by ANY driver!

Can someone post a pic of their Device Manager expanded to as many levels as possible? Most importantly for me is the name given to the Ethernet device. I hope I can find some driver on Intel's website that actually works for this OS.

Or if anyone has had some of the same teething pains, please share your story.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks Harryboieye!

But the Ethernet is what I really need! Without that descriptive name I dont know how to search for it on Intels web site. And I really need it for work. Thanks anyway though.

    Anyone else?

    Thanks Corthalis! +rep

But the driver I found on Intel's web site still wont load. I'm starting to think I need some sort of update from windows, or something else is wrong with my installation. I just wish I could find where the temporary directory is so a could force feed this thing the driver myself! :(

Have you tried pointing to the directory of the driver files manually?

Hit Update Driver from Device Manager and browse to the driver files. If driver IS for Windows 2008 server, it'll should take it.

Yeah, I've tried that. Searched for the correct INF for hours without any luck. This 82577LC is just not there as far as I can tell. The 82577LM is there, but I'm afraid of trying to force that driver on the hardware.

Unless driver changes affect the clock/electrical operation of the said hardware it's safe to force the driver install. You're not going to damage anything other having a non-operational hardware piece. Do this as last resort however

I couldn't install the network drivers either.

I just installed using an inbox driver that said something like Intel 82xxx or something. I did the same for the intel 6300 wireless, just picked something close.

    Both work fine.

yep..I have need of the Hyper-V and I also enjoy the speed and flexibility of installing certain aspects of windows.

btw, the only way I could get Ethernet working was to install the 82577LM driver instead of the propper 82577LC driver. No issues have popped up yet, but it does seem to be a wee bit slower or less responsive. Could also be my imagination, as it is working, and that's all that counts.

I stated in another thread that I'll perform a writeup on putting Server 2008 on the m17xR2 when all the teething pains are over and done with.
