Couple of issues - PS and Version

Ok first let me apologize for my search skills. I found several threads on the issue but most of the only raised more questons than answers. and for the length but I wanted to be sure to get as much info in as I could so ya'll wouldn't have to keep coming back to it.

I have an alienware M17x I do NOT know if it is R1 or R2. I am GUESSING it is R1 since if I go to the website and put my service tag in to download a new BIOS I get A07. if I just do a search for M17x Bios I get a page where it goes to A10. But A10 gives me an error when I try to fash saying "part ID of system BIOS and new image file are different (system=98Q file=35K the system platform may be different than the image file" so I am basing my supposition that it is an R1 on that.

now the problem. I am having the "unrecognized power supply" error on boot up and then the computer goes into stealth mode and I am stuck doing everyday crap instead of playing WoW since the integrated graphics are not good enough. I called Tech Support and finally had to yell at them to get a supervisor on the phone. the first and second twit wanted me to remove and reseat the memory to troubleshoot the power supply. I have a new one on the way but from what I read this may not solve the problem

I will say I am a contractor in Iraq and power is not exactly stable but up to now I have had ZERO issues with this thing until now. I have a copy of stealthindicator that normally will take it out of stealth mode but not now. it takes it out and the laptop will immediately go right back into stealth mode.

so what are my options now? is there a way to disable stealth mode so the ATI cards will stay on constantly? is there a way to disable the battery recognition circuitry without having to take the laptop / brick apart? can I save my sanity? the laptop is a gem otherwise.
