Ok so I got the new beast and like it very much.. Had to have the video cards replaced in it right off the bat but other than that it is running great. So on to the questions..

    1. I have setup an AlienFX profile for watching movies, and blacked out all the lights, but I can't seem to get the media, and touch pad to turn off, am I missing something??

    2. Power profiles. I have created my own to try and get the most power savings when on battery power, so I can try an watch a movie.. I understand that it will be next to impossible to watch and entire movie on one battery charge.. Anyway I notice I created a profile that dumbs everything down with AlienSense or whatever the power management controller is, however even though I have the processor clocked way down, it still runs at a high clock speed (according to cpuid around 1200mhz). When I put stealth mode on I get a message saying that I don't need it cause I'm using a power profile, but I engage it anyway and cpuid reports around 500mhz for the processor.. Whats the deal.. Do I need stealth mode or not, or am I just setting up my power profile wrong..

    3. When on battery power does crossfire automatically disable itself or do I have to do it manually.

In your opinion what is the best battery life I can expect..

    Thanks for your time

    Mike

To disable Touch pad light(as well as touch pad it self but who cares we all use great gaming mouse anyway :) ) push: fn + F12.

About battery time then max 1.5 to 2 hours surfing the internet or office related work in stealth mode, any other activity below that.

Stealth mode is actually a setting in the power plan function which you can see and chose between when clicking on the battery icon and that must mean that you already have picked the stealth mode(the one called Power balanced or power saver I guess ).

This machine use a lot of power :)

Go to your desktop toolbar and click on the tiny"up" arrow on the right. go to customize.. Drop down and click on the Alien FX head and select "show icon and notifications". Once it's locked onto the toolbar, right click on the Alien head and uncheck "keep status zones turned on during go dark".. Done.

P.S. Can I ask you why you had to have the GPU's replaced?? what error messages were you getting or what problems was the system showing. I am having my GPU replaced and my system is 5 days old.. I keep getting red dots all over the screen and my display driver keeps crashing.

When I would turn on the Crossfire option and then fire up a game (didn't matter which game) the screen would roll (kinda like an old tv that's not tuned in properly). When I turned Crossfire off the game worked fine. Called Dell we went through all the steps on the phone, next day a guy was at my house with a new secondary gfx card.. He put it in, but the system didn't even see it at all.. So he came back a couple days later with two new cards and replaced them both. That fixed it.. I'm pretty sure my original secondary was messed up, or the xfire cable was, then he put a bum one in the system.. Third one was the fixer..

System, did this out of the box, but Dell was very easy and helpfull to work with, and really speedy on the fix..

    Thanks for the info
    Mike

Damn, that's a bummer, but I'm glad to see you got it fixed, and without the tech damaging your system.. I don't have CF so I only have one graphics card to worry about.. We'll see how my repair goes..

Let me know if you got the media and touch pad lights off.

Yup, that was it. Thank you very much for the help..

Yeah I sat there and watched the tech the whole time. In fact I helped him part of the time. He had never seen an alienware before...

Anyone have any suggestions or answers for #2 and #3..
