Ok, so reading over my old post, I see that it sounds like I'm 12.

Anyways, my question is if I were to buy a single Crossfire bridge (on the assumption that I don't need a specific kind for a laptop) will that be sufficient to connect my two 5870's?

On top of that, I am wondering if this particularl heat sink:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-Mobility-HD5870-Video-Card-Heatsinks-/260696647799#vi-desc

will be able to do what I need it to do, as well as actually fit and all that.

Actually putting this together won't be a problem but I don't want to end up trying to force incompatible hardware to work with each other.

no that heatsink will not work. You will need this heatsink instead.

    Alienware M17x M15x 280M 260M Video Card Heatsink X203R | eBay

    or

    Alienware M17x M15x 280M 260M Video Card Heatsink X648M | eBay

Note they are different. One is a "left" heatsink. One is a "right" heatsink.

As for the crossfire bridge. No not any Crossfire cable will work. You will need a specific one which is very very hard to find. Usually you can only get them with the purchase of a video card like this one:

Alienware M17x Dual 1GB 4870 Graphics Cards with Cable | eBay

And here is a better picture of the cable that you need.

Any other cable will not work.

EDIT: I believe they will work, but someone needs to confirm that the nvidia heatsinks have the same mounting holes as the ati cards. Do not buy them until you get confirmation.

hmm things are never simple are they? Well as far as the heat sink goes I'll need the right one (my new card is going in on the right) but yes I need confirmation those will work.

And would the cable from those 4870's work with 5870's? If they do then I can just buy those and resell the cards. However if the 5870's has a specific cable that only works with them then I may be out of luck for a while until one comes along on ebay.

As far as I know, the pin outs are the same on the connectors for the AMD 4870's as they are the 5870's and so forth.

If you need a Crossfire bridge cable I have one from an R2 that is going back to Dell as an Exchange, I purchased a crossfire upgrade after the fact so they have no legal right to get my 2nd Graphics card fan or anything else I put into it.

So if you want the cable just let me know...

    Gthaatar,

Drop me a line at forts(at)bzcom.biz, and cover the shipping and its yours. I highly doubt I'll ever use it again since the next machine I get will be XFire from the factory and already have it..

Just remove the (at) and replace with @ just in case you didn't see what I did there.. Trying to keep the spam bots at bay..

Didn't see a PM function on here otherwise would have used that..
