Ok for this to make any sense i have to put you guys through a very long and boring story, hopefully someone can help.

4 weeks ago: I buy an M17xR2 from my local retailer. 720qm, single 5870... ect. I decide to get the 2nd 5870 fitted by dell.

2 weeks ago: Dell fit the 2nd GPU system doesn't show anything on screen. FX come on but nothing else. (currently A05 BIOS)

1 weeks ago: Dell try a new 2nd 5870, no luck. they also replace the motherboard for a new one. (A06 BIOS) still no luck with 2nd card.

Today: Dell try a new motherboard (A04 BIOS), new CPU (940xm woops :) ) everything works including 2nd GPU.

Now here comes the problem. in games i got an insane amount of flickering. So i looked online and apparently the new BIOS helps. So i upgrade to A06... and guess what... nothing on screen. absolutely nothing. so I've took the 2nd GPU one out as a short term fix.

What do i do? I'm guessing my system just doesn't like A05-6. So what i really need to do is get back to A04 then try graphics drivers to fix flickering, but how?

Could really do with some help as if i go through dell they could take my pretty OEM 940XM away!

    Thanks

This thread will get redirected fyi...

What games is the flickering in?

WE are all still waiting on Dell/Alienware to update the drivers to flx the flickering.

If I were you I'd check about returning it...Dell/Alienware has dropped the ball big time on this one...

I'm not too worried about the flickering in games at the mo. im just trying to get the 2nd in the system without getting nothing on screen when i turn it on. it used to with A04 but not A06. so it can't be hardware. somewhere A06 isn't liking 2 graphics cards.

The 940 was a like-for-like replacement for my 720, dell messed up big time there lmao

Note concerning ATI based 17x's -

If you are running into an issue with the current Dell ATI driver, please post here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/503710-dell-ati-4870-5870-driver-discussion.html

If you are running into an issue with the current AMD driver (non-Dell driver), post here:

For general Crossfire posts which do not fall into the above two threads, post here:

We need to avoid additional crossfire thread creation if possible. Please use one of the threads I listed above.

Concerning your BIOS issue - you have a M17xR2. BIOS releases for the M17xR1 DO NOT apply to your system. Only use BIOS/drivers for the R2. You can find all of them here:

    M17xR2 Updates from Dell Support

Reflash your BIOS with A06 which can be found on the same page.

    Thanks.
