I know this has been gone over more times than many of you would like to see, but I think my R2 "specs in signature" is behaving badly. With Witcher 2 and Crysis 2 and Battlefield 2, is there something with sequels and crossfire? I get that damned screen flicker, and yes I have 11.5 drivers, and I have tried everything to rectify the problem. I have noticed in a few post that some are saying that I may have a bad 5870, is there a test to find out if this is true?

I really don't want to send my system back since I'm really attached to my RGB screen. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Run 3dmark06, and post your results.

I've had that problem in the past. Try disabling Crossfire and see if the flickering stops. If it does, you most likely have a bad gpu. I would try uninstalling 11.5 CCC & 11.5CAP3. Run ccleaner & reinstall.

What does CCC Crossfire Diagnostics say?

Bad Company 2 should not have flickering. The Witcher 2 & Crysis 2 both are know to have flickering issues with CF enabled.

Yes that is normal, I am not sure about how to find which cap you are running. Did you download the driver alone or did you download both. If you downloaded the driver by itself you have no CAP. You can check to see if you have the CAPS installed by going to the control panel under programs and features you will see an ATI icon that says application profiles. If it is not there download from the link I posted.

At this point, I would call 1-866-287-6727(Alienware) and get support. It sounds like you have either a bad primary or secondary gpu.

Yes I have ATI application profiles under programs and features, and I am still getting the flickering. I will call support. Thanks for all your help guys, it looks like I may have to return my system, what a bummer.

He/She said that they have flickering in BF:BC2. There's hasn't been any flickering in that game since 10.6CCC w/o CAP.

3 of my 4 R2's had bad slave cards out of the box. If you are happy with the condition of the system and feel comfortable replacing them(it is easy) then you may want to have them send you both GPU's with crossfire bridge cable. If you send it back they may offer you a R3 or a discount to keep your current system and the replacement parts overnighted to you. It's really up to you/them.

If you do decide to keep it and use the links(2 videos) I provided you to do the work, make sure they send you a new indicator panel, and palm rest in case you damage them taking it apart. To remove the indicator panel push the screen back as far as it can go so that the hinge covers on the indicator panel are free to release. When taking it off carefully remove the ribbon cable. Also make sure that you use your fingers to edge down the palm rest to remove it. Most on-site techs damage these parts because they think you need to pry them apart with a mini crow bar. You don't. They come off very easy. All you need is a small jewelry screw driver to take the entire system apart. Nothing else. I've seen brand new units from the factory assembled incorrectly. There's nothing like a system you know is put together correctly because you did the work.

Keep us posted on what you decide!!

You guys won't believe this but I just got off the phone with tech support and he had me reinstall the original drivers from dell's site, and no more flickering. I lost 3000 points in 3dmark06, but I'll take a hit in frame rates to get rid of the flickering.

I would not settle for the Dell drivers. Most of us R2 owners can use the official AMD Drivers. So should you!! You will take a big hit in performance and in game with the Dell referrence drivers.

^^Thats a good point. It could be a couple other things then a bad slave he should rule these out first. System Bios should be A10 and the VBIOS should be 012.020.000.027.037640

What system bios are you running? What is the VBIOS on the cards?

I found if you change any of the color setting in CCC with non dell drivers you'll get flickering in Unreal Engine games.. set any custom color/brigtness/ect crap back to default and try it again.

You can still change colors settings, but instead of using the desktop color managment tab wich bring the flickering, use the "my built in display" one.

    I am on driver 11.4 and 11.5 CAP 2

No flickering in BC2 and Crysis 2.
