Hi, I've received my new m17x today and I've got a problem. The Crossfire does not work. It says that the cables are not connected properly. I have opened it and checked: the cable of the first card is connected properly. I could not reach the connector of the second card because it was covered by the heatskink, but it seemed connected properly and I also pushed it in a bit.

I don't know what to do! I've paid 2500€ for a non functioning laptop?

    Please help me = :)confused:

    DON'T PANIC!

    1. Call Dell
    2. Ask for a replacement of both cards... (You might need to spend some hours with them over the phone and they might need to connect to your PC for some testing.)
    3. Once they authorized the replacement, wait a few days
    4. Relax until the tech guys comes to your house to repair the PC.

I had the same problem with mine (I'm in the USA) and they replaced both cards. The problem was likely with the connector on the primary card. Funny thing is, I didn't even know crossfire wasn't working until they replaced the motherboard on an unrelated issue and I was checking around to make sure that the tech put everything back together correctly (he was pretty rought with the system, and seemed confused...). When I discovered the error message in the Catalyst Control Center I called Dell and they had me ship to Texas for repair. Got it back less than two weeks later with two new cards, working like a charm.

I've called them and they said they'll recall me today. And also told that I've got a better assurance because my product has less than 10 days.

I'm waiting for them...but the problem is that I need my laptop cause this week I'm moving to another city to university...will I have to ship my m17x or will they come to repair?

There's the possibility that they will break or ruin something?

Thanks to all for helping me, and sorry for the bad English, I'm Italian

This happened to me when I first got mine, and to be honest it may not be that big a deal to fix.

In my case, what I did was go into the hardware section of the Control Panel and have the system uninstall both graphics cards, then let the system re-detect them. It worked for me, and I suspect the problem is a slightly loose crossover cable which is unfortunate but it does happen.

I would also say it's a good idea to get ATI Tray tools, which gives you some good information and allows you to readily see if Crossfire mode is working correctly.

Hope this helps, doing some troubleshooting on your own will pay off in the long run if you can spend the time.
