Hi again all you on the Alienware forum![]()
I don't know if others are having the same "problem" as me, but I just wanted to ask, since I can't see a thread about my question
M17x Specs:
1.6 ghz, 720qm
Dual 5870s
4gb ram
Latest ATI driver and vBios from Dell.
I downloaded the Medal of Honor beta the other day, and I noticed bad fps whether I was in 1280 x 1024 or 1920 x 1200, even with settings on low. I decided to try without crossfire, and now it was running really smooth on 1920 x 1200 with high settings? Bad crossfire support I suppose?
Decided to try Bad company 2 aswell to see if there was the same problem. Bad company 2 did actually run better without crossfire.. Are you guys having the same problem as me?
I don't think it's a damaged card or something 'cause I'm getting a higher score in 3Dmark '06 with crossfire turned on (14050 with crossfire/12500 without)
Shoud I/we expect a better performance from my/our system(s) in a near future?

Hi, I have tried both games and not had any preformance issues but i am running two 4870. I have been told/read other users with 5870's having issues with some games but not these so far.
As long as stealth mode is disabled then it should be working ok, maybe change the drivers to 10.8 and test. -
DemolitionManHD, Thank you for your answer
Stealth mode is not enabled, already checked that
I don't think it's possible for me to go back with the drivers since I have the latest vBios. I guess I'll try to reset CCC and see what effects that have -
Quite a few people had similar issues as you last time when updating to newer drivers /vbios.
Also make sure Catalyst AI is enabled to Advanced.
Cheers. -

Yep correct you need it enabled to run Crossfire mode. For most purposes set it to Advanced. If and when you encounter problems with performance or something then you can try setting it to standard.
And of course in rare occasions like when I'm playing FIFA 11 I have to disable it otherwise my frames are soooo..... woeful it is like running on a 10 year old computer lol. I'm still waiting for new drivers to support the game though. So hopefully better performance will come out since Nvidias new drivers already support it and run it like a dream!
Also for the benches it is recommended that it be set to advanced for better numbers
So yeh thats just how it goes although I too was wondering what it really does. I was trying to find out last time what the equivalent of the Catalyst AI was for Nvidia GPUs in control panel? No idea really. It just seens like you turn on the brain or some sort of feature set in AMD cards lol.
Cheers. -
can anyone please advise me if i should download the amd update from dell.
r284039 to fix crossfire. i have a m17x r1 and have no idea if i should update this .and is it realy needed as i play cod/bo and not that tech aware. -
Change power management settings from "Balanced" to "High Performance" maybe? I dunno. Just guessing. Don't mind me.

The problem is some of the official ATI drivers get installed without getting them modded like the catalyst version 11.3...........I tried on my system got installed aboely fine. My system spec are;
Alienware M17x R2
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition
Intel Core I7 920XM processor
8GB DDR3 1333MHZ memory
1 TB of HDD running on RAID0
ATI Mobility HD Radeon 4870 X2
Audiology Sound Blaster 24-bit Platinum series sound card
BD-R blue ray writer drive
I tested Resident Evil 5 benchmarked & got score on all setting set to high 180~195 fps..........
I think its not the driver issue....... -
I have the same problem as well as many others. I had way better performance with 4870's. I got my 5870's replaced because i was complaining about how bad my crossfire performance was and made no difference.

So anyone got a solution to this problem so far?
Crossfire performance
