I installed my crucial m4 in port 1 and installed windows from the dvd i got with the laptop. At first everything looked ok but then windows froze and then i rebooted. Now windows wont work, the m4 is recognized in bios but says 0gb for somr reason and i can't select the drive to reinstall windows.
I will try with a boot cd to format the drive clean and then reinstall.
Should I try ahci instead of raid? This doesn't sound like a problem caused by raid though.
-
Ahci mode and make sure the firmware is 0002.
-
Go to ahci and also upgrade your firmware from 0001 to 0002 on the hardrive.
-
The firmware is 0002 already. I will try ahci.
-
-
Now my windows dvd wont boot up, its stuck in starting windows phase.
-
Is it possible that the m4 is faulty and creating problems all around or are this common problems for the m4?
-
Very strange.
The windows dvd should boot that has nothing to do with the hdd/ssd.
Try to reset al your bios settings and try again. -
I did that already, now thr computer wont boot with the original hdd, gives me blue screen and reboot. That might be because i tried to install a crappy partition manager and thats when the blue screen started. But if i cant access the windows dvd then i cant fix it. I do have some recovery dvds which i creatded as soon as i turned mt pc on. I will save that for last.
I have removed the ssd and now the dvd boots, dunno if its coincidence or not but i will try to fix the original hdd and then put the ssd back in and try to reformat it allthough i told you iy says 0Gb under bios and i cant see it at all in windows.
Update: i cant fix the original hdd windows installation so i am attempting to restore it from the recovery dvds. -
Why is the ssd showing 0Gb though, thats definetly not normal.
-
So you fixed windows? Format it in windows. Also open a thread on the nbr ssd forum about this problem.
-
I didnt fix windows on the original hdd yet, i am still trying, as a last resort i will do a factort restore but before windowd died i couldnt see the ssd anymore in windows hdd management.
-
Is it possible to hook the ssd up to the pc you are on now?
-
Im on my ipad. I did have another laptop but i sold it today. My luck ah?
I do have an external hdd case i coulf use but not until i get the windows working again. -
No other pc in the house you can use?
-
I have a macbook actually but what do you have in mind? Should i plug it into the macbook and see if i can install mac os on it or?
-
You have the external case right, hook it up as a external and format it.
-
I will try that first thing when i get home from work. I just can't understand why I couldnt see it under windows anymore. I managed to install windows from recovery discs right before i left for work. I dont understand how the windows on my original hdd got screwed up.
If i manage t format the ssd i am taking out the original hdd before putting the ssd in and trying to install windowd. -
Format both drive's and give it a try.
Something got messed up in procces somewhere. -
As i said, the original hdd is formated and reinstalled from recovery discs so iwill just have to fix the ssd. At least i know uts nothing major with the lappy.
-
Ok I missed that. So you are able to startup the lappie with the HDD?

Could be a dead drive if you cant format it or partition it. -
Yeah, I installed everything fresh on the original HDD from recovery discs and it works fine.
As for the SSD, I put in my external usb case and it wont power on, I can hear the drive "spinning" or whatever it does but windows does not find any new hardware at that point.
I think it might be a dead one as well, but it is strange because it worked so far as I could install the windows on it. -
Does the R3 recognize it? SSD should not make any noise at all.
Drive might be dead yess, return it and get a new one. Can you load the Windows dvd now? -
I didn't put it back into the R3 because I think its useless as long as it didn't work the first time and it didn't work in the external case.
When I did have it in the R3 the only place it showed up was bios where it said 0GB. I think im sending it back. -
Keep this thread updated, the first M4 that died.
Get a new one and let us know if its recognized by the bios as 128GB. -
Thanks for all the help Brabostaan, I hope Amazon will play nice and issue a replacement fast, I ordered the momentus from them as well and the hyperx 1866 8 gb ram kit + the ssd so I gave them a little business in the past few days.
-
The M4 comes with warrenty so if Amazon wont help you Crucial will.
See if you can get the 256GB M4, its faster. Kinda wishing I got that one but the price...outch. -
It might be faster and I would love to have 256 available for windows + apps & games but 380 euros... ummm ... its not worth it.
I will keep you posted when the new one arrives. Amazons policy on returns for replacements is that they send out the replacement in the next working day without waiting for the original one to come and then u have to send the faulty one within 30 days.
Did you install all the drivers from the resource dvd after installing windows on to the ssd? -
Not all drivers are on the recource disk. There are some newer drivers on the support site.
You can download all the latest drivers and burn them to a cd.
Beware that the wifi driver will not auto install you need to select the driver through device manager. -
New m4 arrived today and i put it in and its installing windows as we speak, i didnt check on th bottom but if the other one was rev 0002 then probably this one is as well. I have put it in slot 1 and set it to AHCI. I have a 500 gb hdd in slot 0 but i dont think that matters. I really hope i dont have any more problems. As soon as it is finished indtalling i will put all thr drivers and run windows updatr.
-
Nice, best of luck.
Remember to instal CC and video drivers after windows update is totaly completed and cant find any more updates for it. -
Seems to be working ok so far but I'm afraid I installed video drivers before windows finished all the updates. Why is that important?
I am almost finished installing everything and no problems so far, I hope it keeps this up.
Boot time is insane fast but I installed HyperX 8GB 1866 Ram as well when I installed the SSD so part of that might be the RAM but I know SSDs are blazingly fast anyway.
I am bit upset because just basic windows install and few drivers took about 25GB out of my SSD which is insane.
Do I need to do a .reg patch like with the Crucial C300 in order to avoid system freezes or does the 0002 firmware fix that? -
You need need to find the SSd install guide and follow the optimization tips.
Have you disbaled hibernate? deleted the Windows 7 SP1 back up files?
Disable pagefile?
Once my fresh install was done i only used 18gb of space. -
Yeah I know about the optimization tips and I was just going to get to that after I finish installing everything. I might keep hibernate though because on occasion I like to use it. How much space does hibernate use by your account?
-
CC needs Frameworks. Windows update will install that.
I see you have the AMD card, then it doesnt matter when you install it. The Nvidia driver crashes when SP1 is not installed.
Disable pagefile for some extra GB. The 0002 fixes all issues currently known.
You dont need hibernation since the SSD will boot fast. -
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Turning Hibernate off will free up about 4GB. Turning off (or limiting) pagefile will probably free up another 8GB in your machine. Turning off Indexing frees up more space and saves wear and tear on the SSD. Turning off System Protection (Restore Points) or limiting the space it can use saves more.
