    Hi all !

So im using my alienware m17x r4 for a month now and didnt have any major problems.
Yesterday while trying to run 3dmark11 for the first time it hang at "please wait" and didnt respond.
Eventually my whole laptop froze and I had to shut it down with the powerbutton.

When I tried to boot my laptop windows recovery asked if it may recover windows from D partition (this is the 500 GB drive where my default dell recovery paritiion is located)
I rebooted and got the same so I went to BIOS and didnt see my SSD anymore.
    Few reboots still nothing ...

Now i removed both disks from the laptop and placed the SSD on the second slot and left the other one unused
    Still no success

I gave up on the ssd now but I reinstalled both hdd,s and booted one more time to recover from D partition so I can work with the laptop with the 500 GB drive.
The recovery took about 30 minutes and asked a reboot.

I rebooted and my Windows 8 booted !??!! (revovery partition is win7) ... i checked BIOS and my SSD was back.
Tried a few games, some reboots and all works perfect ...

I firmware-upgraded the SSD from 010G to 040H and hope it doesnt happen again.

Anyone any ideas what happened ?

    tnx

Probably hiccuped...personally I'd RMA the drive to Crucial, nothing like it failing when you are doing something important. Did you run a SMART test on the SSD?

Firmware was needed. Just google and you see that it is often problem with older firmware. You could find the way to fix it too.

    tnx for the reply

yes I did the short alientopsy test on the drive that included some SMART tests and everything was green
if it happens one more time i return the drive

is it possible to make my own alienware recovery ISO so when I press F2 prewindows I can reinstall a nice clean OS with all drivers etc included ?

You can create a recovery partition after setting up the drivers and programs.

    How to install AlienRespawn

Or maybe use a 3rd party program like paragon or acronis to create an image of your system and store it in an external HDD.
