so i just installed Cyberlink on the alienware resource cd, and i poped in a bluray movie (i do have a BD ROM drive), and it says "there is a disc with an unsupported format in drive D:"

im not too sure if i need an update or a patch for the DVD software, but it will not play bluray movies. any suggestions?

Check for updates. If none, try a reinstall. Confirm you have a blu-ray reader

This is not so much a suggested fix as it is a related question: Doesn't Windows Media Player play them already? Is the Cyberlink software necessary to have installed for Blu-ray?

Run PowerDVD. Click the TOOLS icon. Click UPGRADE. It should show a FREE patch to upgrade to. If not check the Cyberlink website under SUPPORT. There is undoubtedly a patch if you just loaded up from the resource CD. It may or may not help but it is most def the place to start.

did exactly that, and nothing changed. apparently you need to purchase the update to 10, but i shouldnt have to buy anything since it came with all the bluray stuff...

have no idea how to fix the problem.

not sure from your reply EXACTLY what you did...but keep in mind that the UPGRADE button does NOT always show patches that are available...that is why you need to check the website under SUPPORT as well....you will have to check for your version and product manually but if you just installed from the resource DVD I PROMISE there will be a free patch! If you can't find it....PM me and I can email you one I downloaded in FEB. They DO like to try to nudge you into paying for PDVD 10....shouldn't be necessary!

well, first, i did the whole upgrade thing on my own, but nothing prevailed, so i went online and did that patch/upgrade on powerdvd8 and it did not work. if u can pm me on how i can get pdvd10 thanks much!

EDIT: okay so i got powerdvd 10 and then updates it from this site: i clicked on the newest update for it and still it says it is not supported. i dont get what my problem is... i have powerdvd 10 ultra and it still doesnt work... my D: drive does say BD-ROM drive so i have no doubt that it is a bluray drive... anyone else have this problem?

I hate to bring to life a dead thread (though I do love to rhyme) however I seem to spontaneously run into this problem. While swapping Blu-rays for a TV show I recently purchased (as in, I was just watching disc 4, and then put in disc 5), the BluRay decided to crash after 18 seconds of intro/copyright fun. I tried restarting program, restarting computer, reinstalling firmware for my drive, and all that fun stuff, without the problem solving itself. I then threw in disc 4, which I had just been watching, and I got the same error. Now every Bluray that I've ever run on the computer is giving the "Unsupported disc in D:" error.

I'm fully updated, etc for PowerDVD 8 however I'm installing a copy of 11 that I have from another computer, this might solve something. If it helps at all, I'm running an R1, obviously with the BluRay drive (BD-RE UJ235A SCSI drive)

    Anyone fix this? :x
