    Title says it all. It's more like an incessant clicking that pitches as the drive reads the disc. I'm not sure whether this is relevant, but the disc I'm trying to play is a Karaoke CD. Takes several attempts to get it to play, and when it does, the drive whirs like that.

    -.-! Weird. What's happening?

    mines doing the same thing on my R1. it read the disc fine last nite. but today will not read any discs. my bet is its dead.

    I have seen such problems before with disks that are bad/unbalanced. I've had a few such ones that came from bad copies of movies, etc. Are you sure the DVD you are reading is okay?
