Hey guys and gals-
I have an M17X that we got about a year ago. For the most part I haven't had any issues. Up to date on McAffee and all that good stuff.
Lately I'll have Google Chrome open with 5 or 6 tabs open to different sites. Then the mouse stops responding and freezes. Nothing happens with the screen. The image just becomes inert. No ability to go to task manager, frozen.
I have to power down and reboot windows. Chrome will restore and then no issues. But this seems to be happening about once a day. Today it happened twice.
I did just clear all the browsing data on Chrome, in case that was related. Took a minute.
Any idea what this could be? Please talk down to me, not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination. Thanks for any feedback.

Update your video card drivers.

Lol, ignore me, didn't see the radeons in the profile...

So I found my Ratheon video card drivers. But only the driver details button is available. All the other buttons are greyed out and unavailable, including the update button. What am I doing wrong?

Try this hotfix
A computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 stops responding randomly
Also, you want to download the ati radeon drivers from dell then run the install.
(you could also try the 10.12 from ati..... there are threads on that on these forums)

Thanks debaucher. I saved that link to the hotfix. They say not to use unless it is a serious issue but the symptom seems spot on so I may pull the trigger soon. Probably if I see it again.

I saw this on their website too and downloaded it. Do I run the execution file to open the file first or just select it when the driver is looking for a new update>
I checked my video card drivers. I am running Dual ATI Radeon HD 4870's. When I'm in the device manager and I update each driver it searches on the net and then tells me they are up to date. -
Just run the executable file, it will extract to your c:/dell folder then in will install.
I would probably uninstall my old drivers then reboot into safe mode and do a reg clean with ccleaner.
Then reboot and run the new driver install.
Good luck

I ran the hotfix. Seems to have addressed the issue. No issues since(fingers crossed).
Thanks debaucher. -
No worries F1fanatic.
Hope it keeps running good for you

Do you get this same behavior when using another browser ie.. firefox or safari or IE?
May want to try that out and see what happens

Do you get the same problem when the computer idles? That's happened to me twice so far this year, I applied the hotfix perhaps a month back to no avail.
