Hey guys, i was wondering, if i buy a M17x R2 and it turns out to be a bricked/ dead R2, can i just buy a new warranty for it and have Dell fix it under the warranty? or is this not possible? I believe the MB/ CPU is faulty and needs to be replaced. I'd figure spending $300 on warranty would be same as buying a new MB and CPU for the laptop.

what are your thoughts on this?

if the warranty has completely expired than you can't extend it. for me all warranty has expired expect parts warranty which you can only find out about if you call dell up

You can try to extend it, Dell technically can deny you from extending it. Be forewarned, it is expensive to upgrade an Alienware warranty, I just upgraded my M17xR2's to 2 years on-site, and that cost like 385 and I'm getting a 75 dollar Dell gift card, Dell wanted close to like 500 for 2 years on-site.

M17xR2 mobos are like 200-300 on eBay.

Yeah, that is what I'm thinking, if I can get the warranty for about 400 bucks, then I can have them fix this laptop and then some more of it goes bad on me again in the future. I'll try to get the service tag and see if they can get me the same warranty for under $400. Spending $150 more than motherboard is kind of worth it as dell will fix what ever is wrong in the future. Hopefully they let me buy the warranty. What did u do to drop down the price that low? And ideas or tips that I can try and use?

I called up the warranty extension # on Dell's site, it was 1-877-277-9723, and I was read out how much it "cost" and I told them approximately how much I wanted to pay and they worked it out. And I'm pretty sure they offer 75 dollar gift cards on all warranty extensions, but they wouldn't let me opt out of it so meh.

You can only extend accidental damage if you bought Complete Care up front. Prevents people with physically broken units from buying accidental damage warranty and making a claim.
