    Hey guys!

How many of you have dead pixels? I've got an almost 3 year old Alienware 17 model and have had the screen replaced twice for dead pixels. I just noticed now after about 8 months of no problems that I again have a dead pixel in the left side of the screen. Now that I am out of warranty it looks like my only option is to buy a screen online for about $110 and repair it myself. Anyone else have any advice?

Why the rush to change the screen because it simply has a dead pixel ?

I had a laptop that I used for years with 1 dead pixel and till I gave it away it is still had that 1 pixel and could have never cared less ... That laptop is still working where it is btw. without any screen problems.

If it is a couple of dead pixels, if I were you I would just stop thinking about it and keep enjoying my machine and save myself 110$ + unnecessary tinkering with a machine is functional.

    That's just my 2 cents.

Have you tried tapping the pixel gently with your finger? Don't punch the screen but taping it can unstick a dead pixel, I have done it many times. There are also free to use programs out there that may help. I have not had as much luck with the free programs but that isn't to say they don't work, it is at least worth a shot before buying a whole new screen.

Yeah it is only one dead pixel. It is on the left side of the screen about 2 inches toward the center from the bezel. I'm going to try and just enjoy the machine for now. I figure if it gets worse and more start popping up I'll just replace it. For now though I am going to take your advice.

I actually tried the tapping and it did not fix the problem. I also tried a few software programs that did nothing. Doing research I have found that there are many cases where there will be a dead pixel or two that one day start working again. Kind of hope that will happen in my case. I guess it could be worse and be right in the middle of the screen.

If it makes you feel any better I have ordered two brand new screens and both had dead pixels , the second one freed itself up so there is hope :p

    Hey,

Don't know if you think my opinion is worth anything because I own M18xR1. Production date is 2011/2012. There never were any dead pixels and display was never replaced because it's superb quality for me. There's no backlight bleeding or anything at all. Im very satisfied with it, it has better quality than my desktop Iiyama X2377HDS which is IPS one.

How long before the pixel freed itself up? I'll be honest there are times where this black pixel is either undetectable or I can see it plane as day. It's very annoying. I've tried several fixes but they just aren't working.

Well, I've done more testing. This is definitely a dead pixel. Even on a solid black screen you can still see it. I just wish it was a but more towards the bezel. I guess I will wait to see if I see anymore. Sorry i just get real OCD with this kind of stuff, especially for the price I paid into this computer. Sad thing is my warranty expired on the 30th of January. Otherwise I'd have a tech coming out to replace the screen.
