    Hi all,

Just got a new Crucial 128GB SSD drive and performed a clean install of Windows 7. Everything went smoothly however my available space is 78.2GB of 119GB!!! I believe during the install the OEM Windows 7 disc created a recovery partition and so did AlienRespawn. How can I check that and delete one or the other?

    Thanks!

Hello, DarthGator, right click Computer and choose Manage, then Storage and Disk Management.
On the right side you should see your drive configuration. See how many partitions are created.

Katalin thanks for the info. I did that and it's only showing two: (C) and System Reserved. The (C) capacity is 119.14 GB with (now) 73.81 GB free. The system reserved is 100MB with 72MB free. This doesn't make sense, I'm losing GB left and right. Granted I am downloading all the Windows updates now, but shouldn't the OS (and even a recovery partition) only take up 20GB or so?

If you have 73,81 Gb free after Windows install etc. that's normal.

With 16GB of memory, Win 7 will create a massive pagefile if left to its own devices. Reduce the pagefile to 2GB max and a huge block of disk space will reappear. (Start>Computer>System Properties>Advanced Settings>Under Performance section, select Settings>Advanced Tab>Under Virtual Memory, click Change>Select c: drive, then Custom Size and enter 2048 in each box, then Set, OK and out)

Yes with 16 GB RAM, you are going to have a default of a 24 GB pagefile (ridiculous IMO) so I would recommend changing the maximum to like 1-2 GB. I have mine set to 64 MB minimum and 1024 MB maximum (16 GB RAM ftw).
