Did you disable Catalyst A.I. by accident? Check and see if it's enabled. From what I've heard, Crossfirex won't work without Catalyst A.I.

Hi, currently having a driver issue with my M17xR2
i5 dual core
Mobility Radeon 4870
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Recently sent it in for repair and now that I got it back I decided to do a fresh install of the OS. Upon reformatting it I installed the driver for the 4870 from the Dell driver website. Computer started to crash and become unresponsive while playing TF2. Then it just started to crash when I decided to do almost anything graphic intensive. Then it started to crash upon logging in. I checked my device manager to check the driver, and it said that I had a Radeon 5870. I decided to uninstall the driver and reinstall it and same thing. Decided to try a generic reference driver from AMD's website, and it installed a 5800 series driver. I know this card is a 4870.
Tried to install the driver that came on the resource dvd that came with my computer and it recognizes that my card is a 4870, but upon trying to install my driver (with a generic display adapter driver installed,) and it just tells me that my driver is up to date. Works fine in safe mode, so I believe it's the driver.
I've exhausted just about everything I can think of, so I would appreciate any ideas or recommendations anyone could give. -
Perhaps they replaced it @ the depot with a 5870. Granted the reference driver is showing a 4870 but might as well download GPUz and see what it reports. Once you determine if its a 4870 or 5870, reference this thread and use this driver.

If it shows a 5870 in Device Manager, you probubly got a 5870, good upgrade. Maybe they are out of the 4870's now.

Well, I installed the 5870 driver and it is still crashing and becoming unresponsive. Could it still be a driver issue? Are there other things I should consider? Should I try re-reinstalling the OS? I can't play any games, let alone not run it in safemode without it crashing while a driver is installed.

Well I tried to install the 5870 driver, and it was still crashing every time I try to load a map in TF2. And after it crashes in TF2 it will start crashing when it feels like it more or less. Not sure what to think. Should I try re-reinstalling the OS? Fairly lost at this point in time and don't know what to do.

Just got my new AW m17x-R2 with CF 5870s. I've installed wow, Sc2, TF2, and went to install more games before I tried them.
I get major image tear and the screen will roll upwards when playing the games, any of them.
I have updated the driver from Dell as per the sticky on these forums, and completed the vbios update.
This didn't work.
I then updated to 10.12 from AMD.
Still no improvement.
Should I be returning the laptop?Attached Files:

Just a thought , but your previous config, was it crossfire 4870 or singular? - maybe if they only changed one card to a 5870, that could cause some headaches i would imagine....

Hi there...I am running an R3 with stock dell drivers. Two issues: 1) I am getting crazy texture distortion in several games. Typically it is the "grass" texture (in witcher 1, witcher 2, and WOW) that just totally goes nuts and starts elongating and flickering all over the screen. Makes the games almost unplayable. managed to fix WOW and Witcher 1, but witcher 2 has very few video options - and it doesn't allow me to fix. Bottom line...Im really tired of this distracting problem. The other issue is I'm wondering if the stock Dell drivers for R3 are slowing me down considering all the great reviews of AMD driver v11.4 (now 11.5). AMD's site says these drivers are not "for laptops with switchable intel graphics" - which pretty much rules out most of the latest sandy bridge laptops - so I'm wondering...is anyone using 11.4 or 11.5 on their r3, and how did they load it? I tried once and it was pretty disastrous. Thoughts?
