Alright, I just did a clean install of windows on my alienware m17x r3. My system didn't come with a resource cd, so I have been downloading all the drivers from the dell support page.

However, for the life of me I can't get an internet connection. I installed the atheros gigabit network, and when I try to install the intel 1501 mini-half card driver there is not executable file found after the file extracts itself. Instead of installing the driver after it extracts it just opens up the folder where it extracted to. How do I fix this?

Also, I seem to be having the "plugged in not charging" bug going on. Ive tried power draining and it hasn't worked. I'm on BIOS A04. Why doesn't my laptop charge?

p.s. Alienware tech support is god awful

It sounds like the intel drivers don't have a self installer.
What you want to do is right click my computer, click on manage.
On the left, click device manager, look under network adapters and you should have something listed there as unknown.
Rich click on that, click update driver.
Select browse my computer and then click browse and point it to the directory where it extracted the files.
Click next and windows should find/install the drivers.

As far as plugged in and not charging, check the bios to see if the charging is enabled there.

I tried doing that method, and then I even had support take over my screen and try that method. The drivers couldn't be found. :(

    weird,
    do this for me:

right click my computer, click on manage.
On the left, click device manager, look under network adapters and you should have something listed there as unknown.
Rich click on that, click properties
select the details tab and then in the property pull down select hardware id

the id should be something like PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0083&CC_0280
    post what it says there.

If the ven is not 8086 than its not the intel card (you may have a dell wifi card).

I just called support and dell must have changed their drivers on the site because after doing the exact same installation(right click install driver in device manager) for the 15th time it worked. Haha
