Installing mobile catalyst 10.5 drivers from amd.com has gone smoothly, but I have been having a major issue that I'm wondering if everyone else is having as well.
(install these drivers by editing the InstallManager.cfg file. Change 'WorkaroundInstall' from false to true. This file is located in the Config folder of the drivers and should be surrounded by EULA.txt files.)
whenever the lid is closed, the computer is put to sleep or shut down, the computer freezes on a blank screen. the fans kick up to max settings and then chill out after a moment. the display never comes back on if you move the mouse, press the spacebar, or press the powerbutton. the computer never shuts down or goes to sleep successfully either. it seems to be "hanging."
this doesn't seem to be a problem with my graphics card, since the dell drivers work fine.
Here's the deal: if dell's 5870's aren't going to work with Mobile AMD drivers, what's the point? up-to-date drivers are important. I may switch back to dual 4870's.

Code for 5870s dell use isn't in AMD drivers, its AMD's fault the next version should have them.

mobility modder doesn't work with 5870's (and it doesn't work with 10.x drivers either).

I don't think it will. More importantly, i think there's going to be problems.
I'm just calling it now.
