They are still uploading the files. If you try to download now you will get error 404.

Edit: it's alive! Go download and try it people!

Hey I also thought that I should point out, from rumors on dell/alienware forums, this driver for 7970m also supposedly works in updating the 6990m as part of the m17xr3, I have installed it and am testing it, so far performance boost is noticeable and temps are about the same (maybe even 1-2 celsius cooler). Here is what I noticed in terms of increase, skyrim had a 7-10 fps increase, crysis 2 a 6-8 fps increase, and STALKER: COP better framerate during raining and better dx11 tessellation (like on the svadosk), also overall more smoothness in frame rate in minimal stuttering. If anyone has stock drivers on 6990m and want to upgrade now would be good time, and to post results.

Dell has launched the official AMD Radeon HD 7970M driver. It mainly addresses general stability issues.

Be sure to provide feedback as we are monitoring the progress.

Hey I saw on some dell/alienware forums that the driver for the 7970m also includes an update for the 6990m, I have installed and so far am noticing a difference on my 6990m. I just wanted to know if this was true, and if there were any issue with doing this (honestly want to upgrade drivers from last year stock ones)?

When I get my M17X R4 should I only update my 7970m driver via Dells Alienware driver website and forget about AMD's official driver website? This is like the correct way to update Alienware's GPUs for noobs like me right?

Just installed it. Performance with enduro enabled is lousy, but for what little I tested it did activate the 7970m. Deus Ex HR usually doesn't run below 60fps (vsync), but with enduro on it was lucky to get 60fps. Mostly struggled between 45-55.

Running the 7970m by itself seemed better. FPS in Deus Ex HR was normal, but I still need to try out the heavier load games. Here's a 3dmark11 (stock clocks):

New Dell drivers: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5863 3DMarks
    12.7 beta: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5906 3DMarks

FPS averages in the same scenes (last places I saved, same settings) were lower in Battlefield 3 and Alan Wake on the new drivers than in 12.7 beta. About the same on Modern Warfare 3.

    BF3
    8.973: 35-45
    12.7 beta: 40-50

    Alan Wake
    8.973: 48-55
    12.7 beta: 59-60

    MW3
    8.973: 120+
    12.7 beta: 120+

I'm switching back over to the 12.7 betas for now. Fwiw looks like decent progress made over the initial release.

This its my plan as well since I care more about stability than game performance. I can wait for the Dell drivers which are probably always going to be a few releases behind the generic amd drivers.

I'm a noob in driver installation area. Everytime I want to install/un-install drives for 7970m in M17X R4 what do I need to be aware of? I.e what to delete and how vice versa what to install and how.
    Thx in advance.

    Driver Package Version Perspective:

Dell 7970m origin release---v8.934.2-120307a-135343C-Dell (as read in CCC)
Dell 7970m new release-----v8.973xxxxxxxx (as read online)
AMD 12.6 WHQL--------------v8.98-120611a-141411C-ATI (as read in CCC)
AMD 12.7 Beta----------------v8.981.2-120626a-141571E-ATI (as read in CCC)

@ Observer I installed the 12.6WHQL right over the origin Dells, then installed 12.7 Beta over the 12.6. No problems, sometimes the cleanup technique causes a problem when all your doing is advancing the driver version. When going backwards on versions, there you might want to use the cleanup.

How much money does m$ pay dell to make them ask us to use IE to download a driver?

Come on, guys. Always use Single File Download through the browser, not the Download Manager option. You know that. Came down cleanly via Chrome. Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]. Only the Download Manager option requires IE.

Tried on both FireFox and IE. Same thing. I always select single file download also. Will give it another try.

Edit: Still not working for me. Are there any benefits to using these drivers?

using the download manager from IE works for me.
but i cancelled the download, and decided just sticking with 12.6 official from amd.

12.7 beta + cap giving me glitches in some games, reverting back to 12.6

I second this. And posts such as this:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/675248-amd-7970m-drivers-new-2.html#post8700684

should be stickied somewhere as it took me a while to find it again once I finally managed to download the new drivers.

Honestly though, it should not be as hard as the post I linked to. Replacing 1 dell/amd driver with the next should not require 4-5 reboots and registry editing...should it?

Here's the best tip in the world to avoid that headache. Get a HDD image creator (Macrium Reflect is very good and has a free version) and make an image of your C drive before you update drivers. If the install goes fubar, just reload the image and you're cleanly back at step 1 (no windows reinstall needed). If all goes well, you can delete the HDD image and move on, or keep it, I keep images for a little while.

Absolutely not. imo that post will cause more problems and should only be followed if you have problems, not as a standard to install new drivers.

I custom updated 12.6 WHQL over the original dell package, no problem, then installed 12.7 beta over it, no problem.

Use the HDD image technique and you always have a fresh square 1 to return to if something bad happens.

Early in the installation procedure, you can choose "Express" or "Custom" installation, I always choose custom to see what it is going to update and you can opt out of something if wanted. Express will update everything, but you won't know what's been done until the final report.

    Anytime :)

    Thanks again man +Rep

but is there anything specific I should op out of during the install, I know it installs HDMI sound something, last time I opted out of that.
I've asked this a million times before and got the same anwser but for some reason wtill screw up 1 out of 2 times somewhere (or perhaps its just the file itself)

    1. Run only 7970m (after fnf7)
    2. Download 12.6 WHQL from AMD website (or the new dell ones)
    3. Run and custom install
    4. Restart and thats it?

i just upgraded the A00 with A01 via custom option, only a reboot and worked fine.
maybe it goes wrong when people used drives from ati directly.
i only used A00 and without a problem upgraded to A01.

This by far is the most comprehensive guide I have seen on this forum, it is very detailed and gives a whole variety of alternatives, and it helped me greatly when nothing else would (probably works best with whql drivers but can be used for any official amd drivers like betas). I used this to upgrade to amd 12.6 whql drivers. Credit to "The Revelator" for posting this.

Make sure you're d/ling notebook 12.6 (it will be a small 1.1MB file that will d/l the larger file when executed, then run that one) and that's it. The 12.7beta says it's for desktop and mobile.

    AMD Catalyst™ Mobility Display Driver

The only thing I ever opted out of was when they wanted to put advert junk, don't remember what it was, it was a while ago, demo or something. They haven't pulled anything like that since, but I always look first (i.e. custom).

    thanks!
