Dell Outlet now has a 17 page for refurbished systems, sold out in no time. Shouldn't be long for the 18 and 14 to show up now.

Is this a good thing or bad? I wonder what the failure and return rates are.

Is Australia, outlet has 2 types of units. Refurbished and refurbished-new. Something to do with consumer law, that dell has to declare whether the system was just cancelling and ended up at outlet or was opened and then repaired and ended up at outlet.

Refurbished-new is basically a laptop/desktop/item which either never reached end customer due to cancelled/changed order and was listed on outlet for quick sale.

Refurbished item is basically used and returned by customer, even if had zero issues but customer didn't like the look or something else.

I would not hesitate buying refurbished new as these items have never been opened :)

But Im guessing that refurbished-new will be more expensive right?
How is the price compared to the new ones they sell at Dell?

There is a pretty good discount on both types. On average about 25% or so depending on spec's. Best part is either unit comes with Dells standard warranty as if new. I have purchase about 20 of these Alienware systems to keep and for resale. Worse case that happened got a refurb m17x R1 was a lemon several issues, support built a new replacement R2 top specs at the time. two years later last month it was replaced under complete care with a 17 in the sig. The R1 from the outlet wad 2200.00 so I would say Outlet systems are a good buy for the investment.

Outlet systems have always been great value in Australia. On average, I have seen anywhere between 25% to 40% discount on outlet laptops.

Any links to these Outlet systems in Australia. I have never seen them sold here. I wouldn't mind picking one up for a side project. Thanks.

They just pop up from time to time on the outlet, but usually don't last that long.

Outlet machines are pretty good, the refurb-new systems are systems that were returned due to a misunderstanding between the customer and DELL and are likely not used. We can't sell them as new because of the laws as you already said.
