Yeah it's a simple solution. We do not have the Turbo Boost module so the driver will not work.

Yea, the Clarksfield cpu is not mentioned or supported by the turbo boost driver as I was informed by Batboy a couple pages back, when confronted by the same error message. I heard that there truly was no performance increase after installation so it's nothing to worry about.

I was just about to ask, thanks Jesse!

When posting about issues or findings (if you do not have a sig) please provide specs as this really helps to eleviate confusion thanks.

That's why it installed with no prob, it doesn't like the i7's even though Dell/Alienware listed it in the i7 drivers and support section?

Do you notice any performance increase?

No I havnt noticed any performance increase at all. In fact since installing the Rapid storage program I would say it's worse. Start up is a lot slower.

The turbo boost driver may only work on laptops with arrandale cpus with the integrated graphics? (even though you cannot utilize them)

    from a earlier post on this tread, it has nothing to do with cpu's;

Well we think that, yet it installs for some and not others. I am simply trying to figure out what hardware it will install on - regardless of if it is doing anything or not

I agree, as this is my main concern as well. I assume that it only worked for specific CPU's as I recieved an error upon installation and found out later that it could be that having a clarksfield CPU causes the error. Batboy informed me of this and I researched it a bit and found that the release notes contain no information of this driver's compatibility with clarksfield CPU's. After reviewing the posts made by others with arrandale and earlier gen nehalem CPU's, they experienced no errors upon installing the driver? I am guessing that this driver was strictly designed for CPU's that have integrated graphics controllers and may fix some issues with turbo boost? (just a thought)

Going to repost this quote from the Intel page since it seems there is still some confusion as to 'what' its for... for the full details, see the link in my post - taken directly from intel.

That really does not clear stuff up.... the "nehalem" parts are:

    bloomfield (socket 1366 quad cores)
    guftown (socket 1366 hexacores)
lynnfield (socket 1156 core i5 and i7 stuff - no IGP)
clarksfield (laptop i7 stuff - no IGP)
arrandale (32nm laptop parts WITH IGP)

So you can appreciate why the use of the term nehalem is extrememly vague and poor.....

This is what I assumed as well, I mean clarksfield are in-fact in the nehalem family of chips. So I'm trying to understand what processors was this driver designed for and what does it actually do?

    Batboy,

I understand that your trying to help us to understand what turbo boost does but I think some of us are trying to figure out what does this new driver do exactly because from my understanding I thought that all or most i core processors were/are from the nehalem family so what gives? Why do some with i5 and just recently i7 620 have no issues with the driver? Is it because of IGP on some processors or because they are essentially dual core chips?

I have no idea. All I did was run a google search for the driver itself "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver". Came back with info straight from Intel's site. From looking it over and also from owning the XPS M1730 which had an Intel Turbo Memory card - big difference. Blame the confusion in intel in terms of using a similar name... lol

But seriously, look at the links I posted as a reference. it will explain the technology and what it does. It is not the same as the card as this isn't about caching data to flash mem.

For why it works/installs for some and not for all cpus, all i can suggest is call Intel Customer service? I don't have an answer to that.. sorry.

Here are the links again along with a link to Intel's Turbo Memory card info (two different technologies):

Notebook — Intel Turbo Boost Technology frequently asked questions

Increasing Performance with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology

    and,

Intel Turbo Memory information (again, different - this is the card and has nothing to do with processor speeds) can be found here:
Intel® Turbo Memory with User Pinning

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks Batboy,

From what I've seen so far the turbo boost driver has no real benefit and that is exactly what the tech said. As long as the driver has no real benefit then I will be alright, also I read the links you posted and they are very informative. I see what you're saying about the real difference between the two cards and how they affect system performance, it just sucks that the driver they (Dell) issued has no affect on system perfomance. Again, thanks!
