If you are confident with taking it apart and know how, just say "hey I have been working with computers my whole life and have taken this apart before. A lot of tech stories involved someone coming in not knowing how to take the back panel off, so if there is anytime that you need help or are not confident, then ask me. I would do it but then it would void the warranty and I would be taking away your job."

sorry to bump this but I wasn't home when the dell tech came and I wont be home for another week my sister was there and she said it went ok but she said that I need to reinstall win 7 using the cd is dat right? I thought if he kept the hd everything would still be in there without needing a clean install oh and this was a motherboard video card replacement as stated above and again sorry for the bump.

I've been fixing laptops a long time and never had to reformat to reinstall the same MB and Video Card.

Did you get the same hardware?

Maybe he's saying reinstall because the mother board is slightly newer and needs different "Dell notebook system software" or chipset drivers?

    Yup!
But your best bet is to post in this very thread and then PM me a link so any advice I have will be posted publicly.

This way if theres a better way to do it then someone can chime in :)

I've got about 5 years experiance with Dell machines being a service guy here at work (Dell laptops/desktops - HP/Dell Servers)

My experiance with Alienware is less then that, in the past I've bought higher end Dell XPS machines but my first alienware (m17x R3) is coming in one week from today :D
