I just brought a new alienware m17x, I got it with a damaged back cover. Called dell about the issue they were saying about replacing the back over and transfering the stickers(Win7 key, Service tag and etc) over. Since then nothing has been mention, they just keep telling me to wait.

Didn't even try explaining the reason and i was told if they damaged the stickers were transfering, is no issue as the sticker was not cover in the warranty and it dont service any funtionality.

   What service. Anyway i am from singapore.

    Did you just buy it?

I think you can get a replacement as it is faulty on arrival. I wouldn't be letting them 'repair' my beautiful baby when I only just received it...

You may just have to be firm with them.

    Can anyone confirm this?

from what i have read, they send a guy to fix it first. If that fails 3 times (unconfirmed number) they replace your laptop with an equal or better rig. But keep in mind the replacements are refurbished ones.

They told me is impossible to replace a new one as the damage on the back cover is a small issue. They would just get a new back cover for me. Initally i was told that if they replace me the back cover and transfer all the sticker over, if i was unhappy with it i get a totally new replacement. But... now they are telling me they will just replace the back cover and the sticker is not important as they dont serve any functionality... and blah blah blah.

Initially I was told that the backcover replacement will take around 3-5 days, now they are telling me is 14 days.

    Conclusion:

The service offered by dell and their technician are unacceptable. Now i finally understand why ex dell members left dell and started up origin pc. Too bad i cant get origin pc in singapore.

Just call in and give them the reference number on your case. Tell them whats going on and they'll put a rush on it. Even though they are hard to talk to, Dell has the best service and replacement of any company I have ever bought a computer from.

If you are with in your 21 days tell them you are going to send it back if they don't do somthing fast. I would ask for a replacement who know what got damaged inside the cover and the bump it took to cause the damage.

are you talking about the plastic panel on the bottom of your laptop? How bad is it damaged? pic?

THis is a very minor issue, all they have to do is send you a new one. It sucks, i know, but you shouldn't let that deter you too much from enjoying your laptop
