I got laugher for you guys. My video cards in my R2 were getting the flickering so the tech came to replace the motherboard and both video cards. Of course the tech breaks something on the power panel where the power button is located. The little latch that keeps the cable firmly attached and allows the computer to turn on was missing. He said it was there when he put it together but of course now its gone and there was no way to power it on. So he called dell to overnight that part.

The next day a different tech shows up and he has two boxes. The hilarious thing was it contained the lcd assembly, bottom vent panel that covers the harddrives up, some fans, a new motherboard, a heatsink, the palmrest cover, wifi chip, the entire bottom assembly where the motherboard is screwed to and various other bits and pieces but there was NO power panel LOL ?? They sent almost enough parts for a whole new system but it would be missing the power panel and keyboard lol. How do they send EVERYTHING I didn't need??? I swear...

So today the third attempt will be made and I thought it would be faster than sending it to depot.. how wrong I was.

    Edit:

LOL I'm at a loss for words. The third times the charm right, NOPE. Again they don't send the right part. They just send the tiny cable itself that attaches to the power panel. Lol they are so freaking dumb. I should have sent it in but they would probably screw it up.

Yeah it's ridiculous. Since I've now taken my system apart several times, I can say that it's not hard if they take their time and know what they are doing. Unfortunately it sounds like they rush and have no clue what they are doing. I'm really sorry to hear about this, I laugh and then I cry when I read these things. In some ways I'm glad mine is out of warranty, it sucks because I have to pay for the items myself, but at the same time with all the trouble you guys go through to get things fixed, I almost think paying is less painful and definitely saves time.

Good luck with getting everything fixed.

Wow, that's awful. I've latched and unlatched that piece probably upwards of 50 times and it's been fine. Seems like all of these techs are just incompetent.

Hi Malignant, just posted above the part number :)

*Edit* for the record I bought a brand new one on E-bay as a backup for (23.99 + Shipping). I'm not suggesting you pay for their mistake, just thought I'd share how not difficult this should be for them.

    Good luck!

Good luck. I have been waiting on that exact part for the last 5 weeks. It has been and still is on backorder.

Finally got them to approve a systems exchange earlier this week since it was taking forever to get the part. Even the exchange is going to take another week. Over six weeks and I have not had a working computer.

Holy crap. If this happens to the TC, I would seriously ask for an upgrade to a M18x. I usually don't condone users feeling they are owed handouts like this, but in this scenario, I think it's just.

3 Failed visits by a tech to fix something the first tech broke, and now the possibility of being without a PC for months is ridiculous.

Are you serious? How are people selling them on ebay and dell doesn't have them? Did you send yours in and have been waiting all this time? I might just have to buy that part off ebay.. they will have to reimburse.

Yeah they told me that the Power-Kernel error was a software problem and they couldn't help......

After I fresh installed and formatted the hard drive 3 times. Thanks dell.

They also had to replace my mobo 3 times because the first one, the alien fx broke, then the second one, the wifi didn't work....

I have had six tech visits and the first one broke that part (center cover with power switch) and put in the order for a new one. Have had two motherboards, three sets of video cards, two audio boards, three wrist rests, two display panels, and a ton of cables replaced. They assume it is the power button not working at this point but it has already been on backorder for five weeks as of this past Tuesday. System may still have other issues as the power board would need to be replaced first to see if that is really the only problem.

The onsite techs are horrible and about half of the problems were caused by a tech breaking parts while working on the machine.

I stand a good chance of getting an M18 as a system exchange due to all of these problems. Will be next week before I find out.

They never asked for it to be sent to the depot and I probably wouldn't send it if they did. Likely it would come back in even worse shape than it was to begin with and I sure don't want to start this crap all over again. All I have been offered so far was an exchange for a refurb with lower specs than what I have now or wait for parts. I refused to accept a system with lower specs as a replacement and have had no choice but to wait for parts. Complained to corporate support and they were the ones that offered me the lower spec machine. Alienware tech I have been working with for the last 6 weeks finally went to bat for me and is pushing for the systems exchange. If it wasn't for him I don't know how long I would be sitting here with a dead machine. About 99.9% of the people I have spoken to at Dell (dozens at this point) could not care less.

Then what would be the point of me sending it in if they don't even have the part that is necessary for my machine to work? Can I get the number or email of whoever you've been working with at alienware tech? I might need their help.
