I can't believe that Dell either posted a fake M17x on the outlet or just lost the order. I placed my order for a M17x with an i7-620m, RGB LED display, 8gb ram, 1 HD 5870, Blu-ray drive, and 240W adapter for $1550 before taxes from Dell Outlet... and I call in today to find out today that the laptop never existed! I thought the way that the Dell Outlet works is that if you add a laptop to your cart, no one else can look for it and even attempt to purchase it. I don't understand what exactly happened if I was able to place the order and receive an order purchase ID in my e-mail. I really wanted this laptop! Can I do something about this?

They have to honor it and build you one from the factory as long as you have an order number and paid for it.
-
I spoke to a Dell Outlet representative and he said that because it is just an "order acknowledgement", it is not a real order confirmation. They didn't deduct from my Dell Preferred Account either, even though the lady I called earlier this morning said there was a charge for $1703 on there. I checked and there was no recent activity. I really didn't expect this to happen... so unusual. Such a bargain for the laptop too! Do you still think I should speak with a manager?

I think therte's another member here with a similar experience. Dahoju, I think? He ended up ordering a brand new unit instead.
-
Lol anodize! I just saw dajohu's posts and I can't believe it happened to him too! I wish there was some kind of restitution, but I guess I'm stuck with nothing. Maybe it's a sign that I should wait for the m17x r3

Elevate the issue with their management and if they're still unwilling to build you a factory system, then contact Dell's unresolved issues department. One way or another they should be able to get you a new system. -
The exact same thing happened to me a month ago. They told me that someone else must of bought it before me, and it was first come first served. They still have not credited my Dell Preferred Account card.
I just ended up ordering new, only took a few days and cost me about $400 more but at least I got what I wanted.
*And now it's brokenNew video cards coming on Wednesday.

The real problem is their system. Some laptops show up in their system but not on the website and vice versa. That's why it's annoying. Before I ordered mine I've spent about 2 weeks searching for the right (price/config) one for myself. All I can say is I've heard just about everything they've used to tell other customers, including yours.
Personally it's pretty sad but what can they do if they can't even see it. On the other hand, calling might net you a good deal since some laptops don't show up on the web at all. I bought my first system this way but returned it. As for speaking with the manager, I'm quite sure this isn't going to help you at all. Dell service, in my years of experience using them for business and such, they really suck...unless you get someone in the US.
In any case, good luck with whatever you do. Ask for a supervisor, it might just be in your favor. -
I had this happen to me twice before.

Thanks for the help guys! I called in this morning as soon as I woke up and I think I got a pretty good deal thats going to help me forget what happened lol. The configuration was a little different this time, but the sales rep really did some weird stuff to get me to buy the system. I think he even manipulated me into some fake promotion that involved me buying a $110 package with norton 360 and a surge protector. I will probably try to dispute it later, but apparently I got a $284 discount that landed me around $1614 pre-taxes for the laptop. This took me to $1771($1881 with promotion scam) with taxes/fees and I got free next day shipping for a delivery date on Thursday. I also am going to receive 3% Dell Preferred Account Credit in 1 week so thats another $60 saved! I guess getting screwed the first time was worth it... Xfire 5870 now instead of 8GB ram!
Also I asked the sales representative specifically to look for RGB LED computer's and he found this one. I'm wondering if this is exactly RGB LED or is it another kind of LED?
-
wth! I've been trying to get something like that at that price for the past week... do they have access to these sort of deals if you call in?
-
I think they have a complete database of the inventory to pull from right there if you call in. I think they are really slow at updating the website or I got lucky and called in before they started putting the computers on the website.

Wow I ordered a m11x R2 for my wife Xmass coming and after I saw this post I thought, I should check my order. It has not posted to my account yet. I called and they told me there is no order
that it didnt go thru. The order number I have means nothing? very strange! Kind of too bad it was a nice i7 540 ordered new never shipped
940.00 total bummer. I think they are screwing up again. -
Many have stated that calling in usually nets you a better deal.
Also good to keep an eye out for Dells coupons -
I have a 15% coupon which expires tomorrow... I just called and he told me that the ones on the outlet are all they have. Not good

It's best to call in. Before I knew of this forum and having spent a week camping the website I spent the next week calling and talking to CSR's. I would even talk to different ones to see if they could get me a better deal. They get commission as my first unit cost $2500 and the CSR was all excited to be getting a bonus and such (he said so hahaha).
Their system is strange though but it usually does have more systems then the website. A few times their system won't have a system they are listing on the website at all, which makes things all the weirder. In this case, they would go to the website and provide the PO -
Congrats on the laptop, sounds like a pretty good deal.
Dell lost my M17x order!
