Hi guys, I'm looking into buying a m17x in Sep-Oct. I was looking at the uk dell site and was customizing an m17x to see that they have removed the 940xm!? I pressed chat with a dell expert and this is what I got:

    16:09:12 Customeer Mirram
Initial Question/Comment: Hello, Im looking into buying an alienware m17x, but at the processor customization, I used to see the 940xm processor as a choice but not anymore, will you be offering the 940xm later on? or not anymore?

That is right this option is not available online anymore.
    16:12:02 Agent dellexpert
Please give me a moment while I check if we can offer this offline.
    16:12:52 Customer Mirram
is this for a limited time, or will it not be available from now on
    16:13:57 Agent dellexpert
    Thank you for your patience.
    16:14:11 Agent dellexpert
I am afraid this processor is not available at the moment.
    16:14:35 Customer Mirram
will it be available later on?
    16:16:03 Agent dellexpert
As it is End of Life. It will not be. You might have something better than this coming up.

I have removed his name and replaced it with 'dellexpert'.
So, is this just speculation that he made? (something better coming up)
But why isn't the 940xm available anymore? wasn't it released in June?
Hopefully we'll see sandy bridge soon??

the 940XM is the last clock speed update before sandy bridge. Nothing else is comming out that's better, and sandy bridge won't hit AW laptops until q1-q2 next year. they're not avaliable right now because of a lack of supply.

Short supply? Maybe that explains why we still haven't seen the 940XM option show up in the states yet. We're still limited to the 920XM on the M17x :(

I can confirm that its aint available to order on the UK website....obviously high demand and short supply meaning withdrawn to avoid confusions

would you guys think the 840processor would suffice, if I ain't thinking in overclocking the 940? or will it be a big loss in power?

I chatted online to AW UK yesterday and they told me that they didnt have any 940xm's in stock.....i asked if there was a reason that they had been taken off the site (as i assume that just as not in stock atm, its no reason to delete them as an option to order - would just increase the delivery time)

Got told nothing!! - just out of stock.....

Now im a scceptical kinda guy so im automatically assuming that they have been withdrawn for a reason.

If you read the a08 discussion thread, regarding the lowering of the xm's performance, some people have said that Intel knew nothing about the fact that Dell werent sticking to the intended specifications of the extreme multipliers.....

Its a long shot, but maybe Intel has restricted Dell's useage of the extreme cpu's because of this?.....pure speculation of course!

Just checked UK site for myself and yeah, they ARE now offering the 940xm as an option......must have been a stock issue more than anything else.
