My video cards just went on my m17x .I have 4870 in crossfire. I am getting replacements is there any chance i will get 5870s .Does dell still have the 4870 in stock
-
-
I'm almost positive that you'll be getting 5870's, since I can't imagine they have much "old" stock lying around. But I personally don't have any experience with them...but good luck
-
If I luck out and get 5870s how much faster will they be than the 4870s
-
15% faster than stock 4870's I would assume. I got a 15200 GPU score in 3dmark Vantage using the AMD 11.6 drivers with no overclock or anything on the GPU's. Hopefully that helps you gauge the performance increase. Enjoy!
-
well with my luck they still have some old 4870 hanging around lol
-
Not to mention you get HW DirectX 11...which is a bonus on top of the performance improvement (I say any performance improvement is still an improvement...especially if its free
).
Good luck to you! -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Dell will do their best to get your original configuration, if they can't they will get something comparable...or better.
-
Now to wait out for them to run out of 460m's....
-
I highly doubt that they have 4870's in stock now. If they still have 4870's, you can always ask them for a price quote to upgrade to 5870's
-
definately 5870's. Same thing heppend to me 6 months ago and i got the 5870's instead of my 4870's. So don't worry and enjoy the better cards!
-
I'm assuming you have an R2?
-
I have a R-2
I did check into how much for upgrade from 4870 to 5870 crossfire 660 plusrade tax. doe not seem worth it for the proforance upgrade -
yes, I'd agree...if you are interested you can almost upgrade to 6970's for that price (a bit more, but significant performance improvement over the 4870's and 5870's). Just something to think about if you are considering an upgrade.
-
So what did you end up with in the end? Did they offer you the upgrade to 5870s?
Would anyone know how long till the 4870s run out? -
did not realize the r-2 could take the 6970. would one 6970 be better than crossfire 4870
-
Yes a single 6970 should easily outperform 4870 crossfire. For more details take a look at this link

Good luck whatever you decide to do. However Dell won't offer this as an option and isn't supported. -
still waiting to see what i get . expect them to some how russel up a couple of 4870s but hoping for the 5870s .
-
Sweet! Just keep us posted on what they send, usually it'll be next day shipping. Didnt you ask them what they might send?
I seriously want to get rid of my 4870s, nothings wrong with them though LOL. -
Me too, that's why I'm upgrading to 6970's
-
I thought about getting them, but seeing as i had 2 and a half years of warranty left, thought id find ways of upgrading without voiding my warranty. Although i have done pretty much everything with it, except for dry ice cooling, LOL. Thats why i wanted dell to replace them themselves.
Maybe the 6970s later on, down the road. -
Ugh- well checked with dell and I am getting the 4870 . oh well debating buying the 5870 but 660 seems like 2 much .
-
Damn, crushed my hopes lol. Nah, I wouldn't buy them unless my warranty is over, or near over. Purchase it elsewhere and install them if you really want to.
Still might be a chance of having the 5870s -
Well, the one benefit from ordering from Dell is that you have 90 days, or the rest of your system warranty on the video card.
Deos Alienware still have 4870s in stock
