Just wondering if I didn't ask the right questions or something regarding my Mx17r3 delay. I gave them a call the day my order's status officially changed from 'in production' to... Ironically... 'in production' with a new delivery date 2 months after the original. Now I know the recall isn't Dell's fault, but their last-minute status change on my order really hurt their credibility in my opinion. Worse, upon calling, I was afforded no real information and/or order modification choices (such as a mx17r2...). I was merely given the unsatisfying option of canceling my order. Which was incredibly disappointing as this is the closest I've come to owning an Alienware and I probably won't get another chance.
I guess I'm just hoping other purchasers encountered more satisfying outcomes... For me, I'm waiting for my chosen alternative (MBP 17") but still wonder what 'might' have been.

I'm assuming they are compensating for the wait, they are for me (and I haven't even ordered like I said)... Just have to talk to the right people.
Also just curious: What made you limit it to Alienware or MBP? They're like two totally opposite spectrums of computing. -
i was one of the last to recieve mine. They offered me $600 to keep it or 750 off a future purchase. I think those who didnt recieve or order early are just sol. im still mailing it back.
oddly enough my 2 choices again will be the new 17 mbp or a 6970 r3. they may be opposites but performance and style are high on my list and alienware has the performance and 'gamer' looks while mac has osx, good enough gaming, awesome style and accessories galore. there is no in between. -

I ended up getting 3 different discounts on mine that put me out the door with a bit more than the AAFES discount
1 as a coupon up front, 1 as a discount for screwing the first order, and 1 for delaying the 2nd order. Haven't even called about the Intel thing but I will push for one then too when they call to replace it.

I got a good few hundred discount for haggling then $500 for not giving me the 3D package that I ordered. Yesterday was the final day of my 30 day return period (30 days in Canada instead of 21) and was offered $500 gift voucher or $300 credit to same method of payment to not return it.
In terms of people not getting their systems shipped, I read a few threads with people being offered good r2's, and even a precision 6500 or two. Before the offer of payment for messing up my order,I was offered:
r2 with i7-720 + dual-amd/ati gpu + 4gb ram + blu-ray + raid0 lowest capacity HDDs
m15x with i7-920xm/940xm (can't remember, but it took 2 days of haggling to get them to agree to xm cpu...then I realized I need dual hdd) + gtx 460 + 4gb ram + dvd + lowest capacity hdd + 1080p -
So, they will offer me some kind of credit or coupon not to return my R3 if they ever decide to call? -

I'll give them about 2-3 weeks to call, if they don't I'll call and tell them I either want a brand new system with the mobo or a credit to get just the mobo replaced, almost guaranteed they'll offer the credit rather than build a new rig.

ok will do. I have had my R3 for over 3 weeks. will give them a call when this weekend. will try to get the mobo replaced plus credit. I need a laptop and cannot wait to have a new one built. what are you planning to do?

Let me know how it goes when you get the solutions call
Did Dell 'work with you' on price/specs due to the recall?
