i had the first batch of R3 and i just received my "new and improved" r3.
Some differences i have noticed.
1. New R3 ships with bios a03. (makes sense)
2. my new r3 has a "rubber seperator between the screen and keyboard. Could this be because my first R3 was the nvidia 3d 120hz and this one is teh ati/60hz screen? someon confirm if the 3d bundle has one please.
3. my new R3 was missing 4 screws that hold down the keyboard!!!!!! i doubt this is a design trait and i will be calling about this.
If i see any more changes, i will update this post.

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Thats good info. I will be checking the KB screws on ine when it arrives. And the rubber pads. Keep the notes coming.....
-
interesting. any pics of the 4 screws? i have the 120hz in front of me and there are 2 vertical rubbers that protrude slightly along the left and right edges of the glass.
-
well, I have a first batch 60hz; it does not have "rubber seperator between the screen and keyboard".
-
This is a good sign that maybe dell realized the flaw and corrected it in all new models.

DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
I have the 3D first batch and there's nothing there, this may be something that will further me doing a replacement rig on mine.
-
Not too worried about the screws, already contacted support and they will ship me some.....and yes those are the rubber seperators i am refering to...the "old" R3 did no have this and a lot of us were noticing oil transfer to the screen if you closed your lid.
-
Do the "new" R3s ship with SP1 pre-installed?
-
Oil Transfer? eeeek -
nope, blah blah to get 10 char lol
-
Hmm, then what build revision does it come with? The latest?
-
I can confirm that the 3d bundle does include the rubber screen separators in the latest R3s.
-
Pre-recall non-3d 460m here (well, until the replacement arrives). I, too, have the 2 vertical rubbers running along the left and right edges, sticking out about 1 millimeter thick in the middle but becoming flush at the ends on top and bottom. still gets oil (i hope it's oil) and got the screen slightly scratched in two spots when it touches the lower edge of the cursor keys.
-
very odd.....if you have the rubbers before the recall, that implies that dell jsut started adding it at some point prior to the recall. very odd !!
-
hmmm the gpu
bserver gadget doesent seem to work anymore on the 6970 system...maybe cuz switchable graphics? anyone else see this?
-
Looks like my 'Before recall' 3D R3 does also have the bumpers, but they dont seem to totally stop the oil transfer seen before....
You guys may just be missing them as they are black and blend right in, if theyre the same thing people with the new R3s are talking about they protrude very slightly in the middle then flatten out at the top and bottom. -
nope, i had the pre-recall /3D.....im positive that it wasnt there. This is somthing that dell slipped in there ninja like when we werent looking lol
-
I still get oil transfer from the area around the track pad. It's not a big deal to me since I have a microfiber cloth between now.
-
Please post a picture. I'm always skeptical and always have bad luck when buying things.
TYIA! -
not taking it appart again but there are 10 screws holding in the keybord...on the top 4 were missing....i called support and spoke with someone in, you guessed it, india. But since he couldnt find the right part number he is sending me EVERY screw for the laptop lol. woot for extras.
-
Aye I am noticing the trackpad ever so slightly on the screen as well and I have a pre recall 3d. I am fairly positive that all machines have them most people just dont know what theyre looking for. they dont stick out like obvious feet like on the bottom of the r3 they are like 1mm thick and fit right in at the edge of the glass. if they werent there there would be an obvious gap.
-
That's quality control for ya... Is it wobbly with those 4 screws missing? Or is it just one of those aesthetic/non-functional things that are missing? Or rather, is it the "you shafted me, now I'm p-ed off" moments?
Whats the guarantee/EDD of your screws package? -
They are between where the glass covering the screen and the screen backing (red or black depending on system color) begins on either side right? If so they are there on my pre-recall R3.
For anyone else wondering if they are there make sure your in a well lit room and look from an angle (or run your finger down the sides), theyre very easily missed. When I first saw this thread I thought mine didnt have them and I was pissed lol.
