    Hi,

Does anyone have this issue. Iv had my r2 820qm for 3 moths now. All of my vent fans are now white not black. At first i thought it might be dust but it is not

Can you repaint these vents and what paint to use. I dont understand this as they made a good job in making the chassis of this laptop.

    cheers

WOW thats crazy ey, never heard of anything like that ever happening before. Weird eheheheh. Got any pics of it? Interesting.

I guess you could ask dell for new fans. They will swap them out for you no problems. I got mine changed the other day, but not because it went from black to white LOL.

He talking about the outside not the Fans. When dust is blown out it some times has a Sand Paper Effect and that when the Paint is slowly taken off.

Most of the time it depends on the location of where you live.

    Ohsss woops ehehe my bad.
Ahh yeh i've noticed the dust on that vent part at the bottom as well. That dust would build up heaps faster if using the notebook on carpet or bed or a surface which has quite a lot of dust. Using the notebook on a table or cleaner surface, the dust seems to take longer to build up. That's my experience so far anyways.

I normally just wipe it off or take the bottom part off and give it a wash. Does the trick.
Guess its a bit to late for you though. I've never heard of it being completely sanded off though. Gee severe eheheh and also only 3 months in. I'd ring dell for a replacement part before trying to paint it.

One thing and I beleave everyone would agree with me on this. Never run the Notebook on the Bed or Carpet. Unless you have a Solid object that you can put your Notebook on. Like I tend to use a Box that held the Notebook power brick and wires. It only a few inches high and wider then the Laptop. So your Notebook dose not act as a Vaccum cleaner drawing in More dust.

Yep I would agree 100%. Never use the notebook especially these types with open fan vents which need to suck in huge amounts of air to cool the notebook on those surfaces. I'm pretty sure the notebook might start overheating or becoming statically charged if enough dust or hairs got sucked up into the vents and fans.
Its quite odd though because I still do see a lot of people choosing comfort over so they will use the notebook pretty much on any surface be it carpet, the bed or anywhere else. There's quite a few pictures here to where I have seen dusty vents.

As far as I know I think the two side vents left and right for the GPU's, they are part of the entire bottom base of the notebook. I had some damage on my vents a couple weeks back and the entire base had to be changed. They had to remove my service tag and windows stickers and place them on the new base. Cheers.

I suppose dell wont replace because its classed as cosmetic wear. Looks like black paint will do or be brave and change bottom part of chassis.

    Hi goodstone,
Anything cosmetic that doesn't affect the operation of the computer most likely won't justify a repair. However, if a rubber foot should fall off, they'll replace the whole bottom chasis (being that the rubber feet are melted in).

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Have you tried finding a large tip permanent marker and do some touchup?
