    Hi guys.

Is there a way to disable the light emitted by the AlienWare logo? I don't want to power off my laptop just to stop the light when I go to bed.

    Thanx.

I'm pretty sure you can do that in AlienFX.

yup, just hit the alienFX button in the top right corner, create a custom profile, by turning the colors to black and you should be good to go. Another option is to just turn off all the lights though, way easier. :)

If you mean the logo behind the screen, that can't be turned off.. the power button can be turned off.. easiest way i find is to go to the alienware icon in the icon box next to the clock -> right click -> select black

R1 and R2 you can. R3 and R4 you can't because they skimped and the lighting is actually from the LCD backlight instead of separate lighting.

    Thanx for the replies guys.

I meant the logo behind the screen.

It's a great laptop in every way except this. They should've made it possible to turn it off.

I'm a 15x r2 user and turn off that one as its a huge distraction in the dark for gaming (love keeping keyboard light on except movies). Although I think you meant the bottom "ALIENWARE" logo, maybe you meant the alienhead.

If its any bit like the m15x alienhead on the back of the screen. You can always do a disassembly and disconnect it. Although if you aren't comfortable and never removed the LCD I'd recommend against it. The way the front screen assembly slids into place isn't easy!

Not this mess again. In my R4, anything that turns off the backlighting causes the logo to turn off - this suggests the logo is lit by the backlighting. However, changing the brightness of the backlighting has no effect on the logo - suggesting it has a separate LED - so, I don't know what's going on. I would actually love to have my logo stay on when I close my lid, but that's not the case.

Some R3 and R4 models have a separate board with white LEDs, but it can't be controlled thru AlienFX.

Its definitely from the screen back light. If you press win key + p then set it to extend the screen will flash black, during this brief moment the alien head turns off too.

Would a BIOS hack be able to change this? The backlight doesn't need to be on the laptop is closed.

Mine doesn't. Although I don't really care if the light is on or off, would be nice to find a trick to turn it off.

If your screen turns off when you close the lid, the head goes off too. Both lit by the same thing.

Did you set the option for closing the lid to "Do Nothing"? If you did then the alien head behind the screen should turn off as the backlight is turned off. The alien head is gathering the light from the backlight on the lcd screen.

Yes, I did. In the Win 7 Power Settings.

When I close the lid 90% of the way I can see that the screen turns off. The alien head doesn't.

Then you must be one of those who own a screen with the separate board i mentioned above.

I thought all R3 and R4 models were simply lit by the LCD backlight. On my R4, it definitely is. Maybe it's different depending on screen choice? I have the 60Hz 1080P.

We tried to find a pattern in the past but the presence of the board was completely random.
