The only way i know of to disable the intel graphics is you have to have the unlocked bios installed and disable iGFX.

you don't need to disable the integrated graphics to overclock :) it's nice to be able to turn them off though. You need the modded bios to do that.

guys I don't know maybe because I don't have throttling and I don't like overclocking (really kills the GPU, though I do it in the most basic way, precision or afterburner :) not like widezu's fastest computer in the world :) respect!), I find optimus USEFUL. why not?! it keeps my GPU at idle 40C, that's perfect, and I am a casual gamer, I don't game for 10 hours, 2 hours at most and that's it for the day, then my GPU is at a very safe idle temp, perfect for me :)

graz, if you're happy with your system performance, then there's nothing to tweak. (wait nothing to tweak? My hands are starting to shake  :D )

My graphics card for the most part is running near idle speeds...like 100/150. Its only when i'm gaming that it goes up

and i don't think you have to worry about killing your GPU because even overclocked, the GPu will long outlive your computer. Its only when you are overvolting it that you have to start to worry [COUGH]widezu[COUGH] :D

Really? Worry about overvolting? Get out! :D You are correct about the GPU outliving the computer. I bet Dell have much more call outs for other things than GPU. If you know how to use it then you'll be fine with it.

For me though, overkill is never enough. 100% speed is not fast enough. BSOD is my haven.

Can you turn off the integrated Intel gfx card even on a ATI based M17x R3 and if so does it help the install process when you want to use ATI based drivers? I really hate having to deal with something I will personally never use and I hate that it makes drivers installs a pain in the neck.

yes, its done the same way. With the unlocked bios disable iGFX...just make sure you aren't using integrated graphics when you do this or you will black screen and have to recover the bios

After you disable the iGFX does it make the ATI driver install less painful. I have had a lot of issues having the ATI driver play nicely with the iGFX. What I am hoping is the driver install will be as easy as it was on my G73 and if that is the case the internal card will NEVER see the light of day on my laptop again. hehe

I have integrated enabled and i don't have any issues installing drivers at all. (knock on wood). So its hard to say for sure. BUT, the integrated Gpu does make life hard for some. Its one of the things on the checklist when installing AMD drivers...i.e., make sure the graphics is set on discrete (AMD card) when installing drivers, or it will bsod and won't install
